Royal Purple or Amsoil

I use Amsoil in my car and I haven't had a problem with it yet. My brother uses it as well and no problems there either. I hear good things about Royal Purple but I've never used it personally. How much does Royal Purple cost and what kind of oil change intervals do you get with it ? I know with Amsoil 2000 series oil you can change the oil once a year or every 35k miles which ever comes first and just do filter changes every 12k miles or 6 months, which ever comes first

i dont use either because they arent readily available in my area. i just dont like having to mail order fluids for my car. ive heard good things about both, and ive heard bad things about royal purple in that their additive package isnt that great or nonexistant in some cases.

That would be great to go a year between oil changes, and maybe this is a dumb question but how do you change the filter without changing the oil?

you take the filter out and replace it. the filter is higher than the oil pan so only like a half quart should pour out plus the half quart or so of oil left in the filter. you install the new filter and add a quart of oil and youre good to go.

I think that answers it. :nice:

I'm running AMSOIL 5w-30 in mine now. I've had good luck with theis oil and the engine seems to run a tad smoother with it. I haven't used Royal Purple myself, but I haven't heard any bad things about it. Redline also makes a pretty good synth.

Also, if you're an AMSOIL premium customer you can get the oil for about the same price as MOBIL1. The last case of AMSOIL I bought cost right at $60. Most of the time when I see it at a shop it's going for $8 - $10 a qt. So, if you do decide to go AMSOIL don't just go to a speed shop and buy it. Find a local private dealer and get to know them.

Don't be fooled about Royal Purple. That stuff is a joke. Amsoil and Mobile 1 are both excellent.

Why do you say that? I can't say I have ever heard anyone say anything negative about Royal Purple. Don't use it myself but, would be nice to hear your reasoning.

Royal Purple is loaded up with sulfer additives. This will initially show a gain in power but after 750 miles or so..that oil is done. Eventually, if you ran it long enough it would just gum up the motor and leave sludge in the oil pan. So yes, the additives package is nuttin to brag about.
