Royal Purple T5 Trans Oil, Good/Bad?

I contacted Royal Purple to find out what they offer for our T5's. They responded with "Royal Purple Synchromax P/N #01512."

Has anyone run this in their car? I would be curious to hear about any good or bad experiences before I commit to this for my T5.

It's not cheap ($14/qt), but my experience at work and with personal vehicles is that the synthetic lubes always do better from a performance and durability perspective. (Long term storrage might be another story since they're typically thinner at room temp and run off of parts.) A good friend of mine who works with industrial factory equipment swears by Royal Purple and claims that it has significantly improved the life span as well as increased the interval between oil changes on their gear ruduction transmissions.

many people have good things to say about the royal purple synchromax in our t-5 trannys.. only complaint they had was about the price.. lol but definitely worth the money.. if its worth doing, its worth doing right!

Amsoil makes a comparable Synchromesh for about $5/qt. There are better places to spend your money.

I agree. Theres no need to spend all that money on just some oil for the trans. Ive seen these trannies go 200k plus miles (not being abused) with very rare fluid changes in between and be great so just stay on top of the maintenance of it and regular ATF will do just fine.

Is it notchy? i use pennzoil syncromesch in my 3550.

I run conventional fluid in my t5. I have also pulled many 100k mile t5 apartment found virtually no wear on the bearings and such. The wearable blockers will wear no matter what fluid is in there.

Plus if I was to run a synthetic, it would not be rp. I am not a fan of moly based liquid lubes...but that is my opinion.

Something else to consider. The transmission is designed to run on very thin fluid, like ATF. You can actually run motor oil in there, it just doesn't have the detergents like ATF that clean it up. Sometimes you think something is better because it's synthetic and more expensive, when actually it's designed for older transmissions and really too thick for your transmission. The best safe choice is probably Mobil One Synthetic ATF.
