gentleman,

like 90% of you with sunroofs, mine was leaking. cleaned out drains, purchased all new weather stripping, didn't work. so found out that the yellow retaining clips needed to be sealed with silicone, and that did the trick.... except for water dropping from the damn bolts on the sun roof latch area. I planned to order the entire hardware kit from LMR, but it was like $100 and that just seems unnecessary. curious if anyone has had this problem, and whether or not I should not just silicone the rectangle metal part on exterior of sunroof, and see how that fares. thanks

I did mine with black rtv, took a couple applications to get it sealed, apply, rub in with damp rag, dry then reapply and rub with wet rag, can't tell its there, need to do it again but it's been like 5 or 6 years.

I purchases some rubber gasket material, and made my own gasket. Seemed to work fine. Really these days the only water the car sees is when I wash it, but back when it was a DD it held up.

so make take hardware apart, trace that exterior metal rectangular piece and cut out a gasket, apply it between glass and the metal piece and re-apply bolts and all way good?

That's how I did it, but clear silocone would work just as well. Basically you don't need to trace out the entire part, you just need a circular gasket around the teo bolt holes to prevent water from leaking down the holes. It can be on the top, or the bottom. I think I made a gasket for the top strap.
