I read over on Jalopnik...of all places...that sources tell them Ford is planning to bring back the SVO badge on a 'Stang packing a 300hp EcoBoost 4 cylinder.

Anyone heard anything about this? Maybe this is pot roast, but its the first I've heard.

Seems like a cool idea, would broaden Mustangs appeal I am sure.

That's one car that I think should be left in the past IMO. They were cool in their day, but there's no room for 4-different engine options for the S197 chassis. Not in todays economy and not with a car that big. The SVO was meant as a light, nible little handler verson of the GT. I don't see any modern rendition of the car being any of those things.

Rather see the Eco-boost make its way underhood.

It would be an EcoBoost engine, just a single turbo 4 instead of the twin turbo V6.

I can see the "SVO" as an upgrade to the base car, and see it competing with the turbo 4 Hyundai Genesis.

The last thing Ford needs is a MORE complicated options book, but wouldnt it be cool to have...

EcoBoost 4 250-300hp
EcoBoost V6 (SHO) 355hp
5.0 V8 400-450hp
5.4 V8 540hp

It would have better mileage than the camaro v6, so if the price is comparable it should sell like hell! 300 hp would put performance on par with the camaro, probably quite a bit faster with the weight advantage, sounds like a no brainer to me. Can't believe they waited this long for it. Bring it on! We gotta have mass 'Stang sales to keep the breed alive, so they can keep on building better v8's!

Don't plan on it. I talked to a buddy at Ford and he said its a no go. I guess they did make a few test mules with the Ecoboost 6cly but nothing came from it.
