running gt40p with regular aftermarket header

i read on here somewhere that you can use your current headers instead of getting the $300 headers for the gt40p.(couldnt find the thread) somebody said something about using a different kind of spark plug wire boot. i just got some the other day and im going to use them for a 4cylinder to 8 swap.

it depends on the headers. some times you can use them with 90 degree spark plug boots. you may need some of those heat shield boots too.

my friend uses some FRPP shorties with P heads and he can actually get the passenger side plugs out just fine. the driver side requires you to take the header off to change the plugs. he also needs 90* plug boots for the driver side also.

Must be the old style. The newer ones are designed to fit the P heads.

Here's the rundown: FRPP and MAC both make P specific shorty's.
BBK un-equals MAY work with 90* plug boots... There's pics floating around the Corral of this.

BBK and MAC LT's work with 90* plug boots and a cut down plug socket.

That's about all that will definately work.

the headers i have must be some cheapies cause it doesnt have a name engraved on it. they look like they flow really good though. i bought them from a friend with the heads

Yes, they must be old. Mine have great clearance without doing anything to the wires or plugs.

yeah they are some old headers not designed for them.

I have Gt40p's and these headers, I still have a hard time getting the passenger side plugs in/out. My ratchet wont go into the socket, I have to use an adjustable on the out side of the sparkplug socket, then spin in out/in with my fingers.

Sucks to pay for something thats specifically made to solve a problem and doesn't.

Although it is better than dropping the header to change spark plugs....lol

I didn't have any probs with my mac's but they are the "p" specific ones. I would have rather have fms but wasn't going to spend an extra $100 while needing so many other things to finish the project. The ones i got were new in box with gaskets an bolts for 149. they were 94/95 though so i had to plug the recirc tube on the passenger side.

would these fit on a 87 mustang?

i used them but you have to block the recirc tube. I ran a half inch tap in it an put a plumbing plug in it. other than that they are the same headers.
