Rust Belt Winter prices?

I'm in the Chi-town area and was thinking on moving onto a 4.6 auto GT... 03-04 gen and I've noticed the prices seem to be lower than KBB or nada and I'm not sure if it's the continued snow we are getting, or are going to get, but it make me wonder when you see a car selling for what KBB says trade in should be.

Clean car fax btw? Does this strike anyone as odd?

It was between this mustang or a Chevy truck...talk about different vehicles.


Maybe I will get a chance to go drive it and check it out further.

I was wondering if one of the dealer sales persons drove it for a while and ended up hurting it.

There has been some added mileage to the mustang since it was bought last by the dealer. appox 3,000 miles... I bet they were hard miles.

On an '04 like the car you posted up you're most likely good on rust, but i would check it anyway. I really don't think 10g's is too low, its probably a base model and they've had it on the lot for a while. My advice is buy as new as you can afford.

That's why I picked up my 2003 nissan, after 5 years of salty winters, there still is no rust on the body. Plus factory SS exhaust.

I never understood why Ford stopped using seam sealer. It seems as though in 4-5 years Ford doors begin to rust at the door seams in the rust belt.

Salt is just plain evil.

So I looked at the car on Saturday, wife was all for it.


For those of you asking here is the current situation:

My wife works within 10 minutes of the house, but here in chicago and all of the nutters around, I don't expect her to walk. I tried to teach her manual, but some people seem to get it and some dont.

I currently have an 03 Nissan Spec V with 53G on the clock. It has been a great car, never been to the dealership and runs strong for a 4 dingy. Posi front end helps along with snow tires to claw through most anything.

Wife has a new Xterra. So we have payments on that beast for 5 years. While not wanting to take on anymore payments, she would like a car she could drive for either an emergency, or more importantly, to be able to switch throughout the week so her truck warms and burns off crankcase vapors.

Moving forward, she loved the GT we test drove.... so onto that story

So I call to confirm the car, go out, test drive it:

It has a repainted right rear quarter, front fender has some air brush work and the bumper has a nice gouge, but I figure out for 10,460..it's fair game.

Drive the car, it's mechanically sound, look underneath, check trunk area no signs of structural damage so we are pretty psyched at this point.

I meet with the guy and he asked me what I thought of the vehicle. I said well for the flaws it has, it's a fair price. He then tells me that the price was a misprint and the car is really 14,460 and that he could drop a grand and that's pretty much it.

I said no deal with a car that has been terribly touched up. I said at the 10460 I could look the other way, but not for 3g more.

It had pleather interior so it must have had the wrong rims on it then.

The car had too many negatives to be asking KBB suggested party value.

And remember Car Fax SUCKS. They only guarantee that the title they have on record matches the title the DMV has. Does not mean it was not in an accident or anything like that. Trust me I got screwed on a Jeep like that.

Since is a few K shy of KBB then I would go see it and take a real close look at her.

I looked at it, was worth the 10460, not 14460. Terribly touched up, air brush work, bumper gouged, quarter repainted with some paint flaking.
