Saleen Fuel Pump

I have a 20001 Saleen Mustang SC. Fuel pump has died. Obviously need a replacement. Can anyone say if these are the same as GT or SVT (not even sure if those are different)? Just trying to figure out what I need to buy. Looks like dropping the fuel tank is going to be a biotch due to the rear valence. May have to remove that too. Anyone done this?

Thanks. This has been my biggest complaint about owning a Saleen. Absolutely love everything about this car, but when a part fails, it can be difficult to determine what you need to replace it with.

So I pulled the pump, and put in a new one and the float arm broke off. I will admit I bought one from Advance Auto (maybe the entire issue...keep reading). So I took it back and they replaced it. I did the swap again and it wouldn't start. Also, the fuel gauge read zero and it has about 1/4 tank. I messed with it for a bit, cranking on it, and troubleshooting...no joy. Got frustrated and walked about for about 15 mins. Came back, cranked it, and it started right up. Let it run for about 5 mins, thinking it needed to prime or something, despite any videos I watched saying anything about a need to bleed the fuel system after replacing the pump (do you?). Turned it off, thought I had success, and then it wouldn't restart. Cranked and cranked, nothing. Now I'm thinking bad pump. Went back to youTube to make sure I didn't miss anything, and decided to put a gauge on the rail. Read zero psi. Back to bad pump. Cranked on it, and again, it fired right up. Went and looked at the gauge while running and the gauge still says zero. Now I'm baffled cuz that makes no sense. Maybe my gauge is bad. I haven't used it in years, but seems odd it would go bad. I'll throw it on another vehicle when I have light. So I turned it off, disconnected the gauge, and now it won't start again.....I'm lost.

Any thoughts? pump, and quit being a cheapskate?

I decided it made no sense whatsoever that it would fire up "sometimes" and ordered the Walbro pump above. It came in this morning and I spent a few hours doing the job AGAIN. Got it all buttoned up and it fired right up without hesitation. Fuel gauge works perfectly and I took it for a spin. Ran flawlessly. I will be taking the old pump back to Advanced and having a word.

I have had this issue with them before on an alternator I was replacing on my truck. Went through 4 different databases matches before we finally got one that would fit properly. The electrical connector plug was often on the wrong side of the alternator and the cable wasn't long enough to connect. Alternators on that truck were cake though. Fuel pump not so much.

Ironically, when I took it back, they couldn't look up the receipt due to the pump not being sold out of their store directly (they were out of stock so I went to a nearby store to get it). So they refunded me the purchase price, which was not what I paid. I had a 20% coupon and $10 in speed perks, so I "earned" another $40. At least there's that, but it didn't remotely cover the extra labor of doing that job 3 times.
