We had a blast the last few times we went. Pay $25 and you drive your own vehicle around the track for three laps. You can pay $50 and they'll let you do your 6 laps back to back. As soon as the group comes off the track, they'll let you jump in with the next group. No need to go to the back of the line. You will have time to switch drivers, which is great for couples that show up. Paying in cash makes checking in go so much smoother. Any street legal vehicle is allowed. We saw anything from motorcycles to minivans to huge SUVs. Basically, we go in groups of 18-20 and we follow a TMS pace car, single file. The pace car goes about 80-85 mph and you cannot pass anyone. There were four chase trucks the last time to make sure no one creates a dangerous situation. No need for helmets or any special gear. There's an age limit though. No infants in car seats. Check the TMS website for details. They usually post more info as we get closer.Saturday, May 13 Laps for Charity I
This is your chance to drive your own vehicle on The Great American Speedway for only $25 for 3 laps. Join in the fun and help the children of north Texas!
Like before, we will meet at the Sonic on I-35/Basswood. Meeting time will be finalized as we get closer. We will convoy to the Texas Motor Speedway and regroup inside. Due to the ~7 mile drive to TMS and some four-way stops along the way, we usually end up with other cars mixed in with our convoy. We need to pull over when we get into the TMS complex but before we go inside the track area. We can regroup in the parking lot outside the track area. Hopefully, we can keep our group(s) to all Mustangs. If someone is showing up in anything other than a Mustang, try to get infront of the line and drive up behind the pace car. Once we drive through the tunnel and enter the track area, the guides will be flagging us into the different lanes. Each lane becomes a group that will run on the track together. It will be hard to try to organize our group at that point. We'd like to keep all Mustangs together to make for better pictures (and more noise!). Last time, we tried to get there right as they opened. I believe it was like 5:00 to 10:00 PM. It was a big mess. The lines were a mile long outside the Speedway. We should probably shoot for something a little later this time. I heard from others that showed up in the early evening that it was really quick and they got to run extra laps. Maybe we should plan for a 7:00 PM show time. Hopefully there will still be enough daylight for photos.
Bring your cameras. Take lots of pictures of the car in front of you and the one behind you. Then post them.
