Hey guys, bad news...
The headswap/truckload of stuff project is done. HOWEVER, I developed a tick, which we believed to be a bad lifter. The, very reputable, auto shop did a leakdown test, and has discovered that, in all likelihood, the cylinder wall is scored from the engine running too lean and a piece of piston sluffing off. This does not bode well for my wallet. I've been wanting to rebuild a pushrod engine for a while, but I sure wasn't looking for this! Anyways, a stroker is out of my budget, and I'm pretty bummed, seeing how this project has just turned into a pain. I can rebuild, with patience, the engine, and I'm wondering if ford makes a rebuild kit, with front/rear main seals, main bolts, oil pan gaskets, bearings, and whatnot. What do, if existent, these "kits" run a cash strapped bloke? LASTLY, when we were trying to self-diagnose the ticking, I noticed the LT header tubes were glowing after about 7 minutes of holding the engine ~2500 rpm... IS this natural, or could it be a product of a lean condition also? They weren't moltent metal, simply a nice shade of orangeish red, mostly at the primarys' bends. Thanks a bunch guys, pray that I don't beat up anyone in the next few days. When I get this godawful project done, I'm 100% sure I'm getting a dynotune, or at least a rocket propelled grenade if it chooses to act up once more.
I still love my mustang though!
