have a question on this SCT 2 Xcalibrator I bought brand new off ebay.

This kid bought for his 06, he totaled the car before he received the Tuner, so the tuner brand new, never used it, sold on ebay, I bought it for $275 shipped.

It arrives, but has no index file or capture files loaded.

Now it still had the LCD Film on the box, the black housing was completely perfect, no scratches, no signs of use. It powers on good, but I can't do anything other that review the dealer info, vehicle dtc's, Strategy, Device Info, and # of changes left, and stat.

Here's the following I get

When I go to Program Vehicle: Error: No Index File. Press SEL

Data Capture: Press SEL to begin: No Capture Files Loaded

Setup Capture: No Capture Files Loaded

Device Info: FW REV=1.14
SN= A08150710000942C

Strategy = RYAF1T4

DTC: P1000 Monitor Check Not Complete

3 Changes Left/Stat = Unused.

I had to run to the bank to make my car payment, and I took my SCT 2 with me and attempted to Datalog for the email tunes I am gonna get.

also here's a link to the auction I won it from,

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...567#ht_563wt_0

Thanks

You might just need to call someone and get a mail-order tune. I got my tunes from www.brenspeed.com. 2 of them for $185. It might have been cheaper, but one of them is for a 75 shot of n2o. You could also try www.modularpowerhouse.com, alot of people swear by them for getting mail order tunes.

There is a chance you may have to send it in and get it setup for your year and model, idk. Good luck!

Well, if it was not used... then something is amiss with it because normally brand new usnits that have never been used have 5 changes left in them. Looks to me that is was used on two different vehicles.

Sometimes when you get that error, it means a tune file is missing, other times the unit has to go back to SCT for repair.

We also sell 2 tunes for $100 with also includes free retunes emailed to you after you datalog until it is dialed in. Email me at don@lasotaracing.com for details.

I thought they were VIN locked? I know an SCT tuner can unlock it but a tune for one car won't work on another.

They ARE VIN locked, but if you flash it back to stock, you can use LiveLoad yourself to unlock it after that. If the vehicle is NOT flashed back to stock and then used on another car it must be sent back to SCT, for $150 + shipping to have it unlocked. Dealers cannot do this.

I have had SO many customers get XCal 2's on Ebay that supposedly were unlocked and were not. Doesn't save any $$ when you pay the used price for it + $150 to unlock it + buying tunes for it. Sometimes you are much better off just getting a new X3 with custom tunes on it.

well I don't know what the deal was, but after spending 2 hours on the phone with SCT on June 27th, they had me mail the SCT Xcal 2 back to them. It wouldn't upload any tunes, and we couldn't get it to do hardly anything.

So I mailed it back in, got my replacement on Monday. The note said that they coudn't get the one I bought to communicate via the USB port, so they sent me a brand new one.

Just uploaded my base 87 tune from Trick Tunes, and datalogged her this morning. I emailed the datalog files over to Joe so he can get my tunes set properly and then he will email them back to me and I can flash the tune in!

so Monday or Tuesday I should have me some extra power!

Cool! Glad you got it straightened out. SCT is a good company to do business with!
