The 1000 gets you two subs and and amp... you could do much better with aftermarket. IMO

Don't waste your money BOTH the SKANKER 500 and SKANKER 1000 are horrible low budget trash stereos. Don't get ripped off like I did!!

Shaker 500

I just got my Gt premium! with Shaker 500 std. It is fantastic! Don't waste the money on the 1000..you loose too much trunk space and the 500 is PLENTY Loud. My Shaker plays fine and no skipps or problems. and all 6 Cds are made by ME!!!!!!

Good Lord, I agree with Excon! I orderd the base unit and replaced the entire thing for less than the shaker 1000 price tag.

I have the 1000 shaker system. It was included in the GT I wanted. I really wanted the 500 shaker, but the price I paid for the car was reasonable with the 1000 shaker.

I actually like the 1000 shaker system. It really does shake the car and the bass quality is great. Now I know what's it's like to sit in a rapper's car (yuk). My neighbor said she could hear me coming down the street (besides the engine roar). At times it's a bit too strong for my taste, but of course, it's adjustable.

CD loading is really slow as you have to wait for each internal tray to line up to the 'one' loading slot, but it's probably the same as with the 500. It could be dangerous loading the CDs while driving as you wait for the impatient command to say "load CD!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I'm ok with the truck space. The subwoofers only occupy the right wheel well area and I usually don't store things there. Plus you can expand the trunk, if needed, by putting the rear seats down.

If you find the car and price you want and it includes the 1000, get it! Otherwise, get a non-Ford stereo instead.

Though you do have a nice clean install there, delurker.

Can having a sound system that strong cause problems with parts loosening up in the car in time? Other than a hot date you're trying to impress?

It can loosen things up (including the date, depending on whether she's got hot panties for good tunes & bass), but it hasn't really been a problem. I always get plenty of dynamat installed, and it helps keep the car from vibrating *too* much. The entire trunk space including the inside of the trunk lid and rear deck are covered with the stuff before the stereo goes in. Even the rear bumper got dynamat this time to keep it from rattling.

I have the 1000, not by choice. I wanted the 500 that came standare with the interior upgrade but wasn't willing to wait for an ordered one back in November so I paid a little more than I wanted to get a car from the lot.
IMO it sound okay but wasn't worth the 1200.

For people happy with the 1000 or 500, I mean no offense. My advice is to keep it and like it. It is way too easy to get sucked into high performance audio and devote way too much money to it.

Most people would probably think the 1000 is great. If you're used to a decent or good system, you'll realize it is crap.

Yeah, it gets loud, but there's more to audio than loud. I'm sure even the basic unit can get too loud to listen to.

I ordered a car with the basic system, but instead took delivery of a car that had the 1000. I can't believe I spent the money on this POS. I had plans to put in about $4500 on a JL (amps/subs) /Focal (mids/tweets) /Kenwood (head unit) system but after taking the hit for the cost of the shaker I'm hesitating. I may try to live with this POS, but I'll probably end up ripping it all out. Right now I'm content with listening to the exhaust note.

If you listen to bass heavy music, the bass on the 1000 is bordering on acceptable, but stuff like hard rock has no impact, no sonic quality, no presence, no dynamic headroom, no.....well, you get the picture.

I agree with Wardog (I think anyway). Don't get sucked in.

After having tens of thousands of dollars go into home hifi, getting all whooped up on chat boards, following trends including cult/fad speakers made in Thailand out of marble, ultra high capacitance solid state amps, magic silver cables... the whole nine yards.... I came down to earth and I'm never going back.

Best advice is from Billy Joel "don't waste your money on a new set of speakers - you get more mileage from a cheap set of speakers". Stressing on whether your stereo is good enough.. I wish I could have those hours back.

My GT Premium came with a Shaker 500 and it's a fine car stereo. If the one for sale had been a Shaker 1000 I'd have bought it without whining, but I feel happy I got the more basic CD changer system and saved the $1200.... very happy. But I like my factory system because I don't want some high school kids with summer jobs at "Good Guys" cutting up my car - no thanks.

Short answer.. "heck no - not close to worth the $1200", but if you've got one.. then enjoy the bass.

I've got the 1000 and it was a easy choice to buy. I didn't want to mess with building my own system. can you do better with $1200 of course but if something goes wrong with the factory system the warranty will cover it for 3 years (i think). I bought it because I wanted my gt with every option except the automatic. I can always change it to something else and I guess you could always wait and replace the 500 with a 1000 & the subs and extra speaker later. The bass is great. the mids are ok and they need better tweeters.
