Lest we all forget, we are still in search of someone to make this hood:

ok - i've found a place here in milwaukee (bennett coachworks - www.hotrodbuilders.com) that will make the hood. i need to know who seriously wants this. it will be $2k-$3k to make the mold, and ~$300 per hood. pm me if you're in.
I'd be interested, but I'm not sure about just doing the hood. The concept vert has a re-worked front end along w/ the roll bar and side body add-ons.

I wonder how doing the hood only would look if the other mods aren't done, and if they are all done what the total cost would be.

If the hood is $600, the total would probably be in excess of $2000.

Just random thoughts.

initial feedback so far has been pretty good - i think we're leaning more towards the shelby hood rather than the concept vert hood. just to put them side by side:

I like the shelby hood over the vert hood. It'd be nice if they could build them with the hood retention kit laready in place. Then you could just install the pins on the car when the hood we getting replaced.

I'd love to have a hood like that, but there's no way I could swing 2K right now. I'd probably have to pony up a little more to get my stripes replicated on the hood.

at this point we have six commited; we will be doing the shelby hood. the more people who commit the lower the final cost will be:

your cost = (modeling cost / total people) + unit production cost ( + shipping if needed)

if we can get at least 10 people to commit, the cost should be $600 or less, not counting shipping. :nice:

Well you know ..I'm in for the SHELBY HOOD...I sent the info to the other guy also..You'll hear from him I'm sure.
See my Email for questions on function.
Thanks

Brew - thanks for the PM. I'm in for that hood, just don't know if I can do it without seeing some finished pics (which doesn't help with what you're trying to do right now). Just laid down $2000 for a bodykit+exhaust, and then will have to pony-up another chunk for the paint/install.

It's a pity the manufacturer won't just stick their neck out and eat the R&D cost and just sell the hood for $600-$800. If they did a good job, they'd sell a ton of them.

Do you know if the new hood will allow for the washer nozzles?

If only it ended at $600. I could definately swing that. My problem is paint and racing stripes. I am sure that paint is gonna cost $500+, then I gotta find someone that will do the same stripes that I already have on my car. That'd be another couple hundred. Tack on shipping and we are lookin at $1500 easy.

This may be a stupid question, but what are they going to make it out of? Would it be the same material as the origional hood?

Its definately a really attractive hood that I'd love to have for my car. I'll have to ponder it for a while I think. I'd like to actially see a complete one installed on a car, but again that doesn't help you with what you're trying to do.

I'm with OUKimber. $600 is a pile to bite off not knowing what your getting. I would want to know that the wash nozzels would be incorporated and how the hood will meet up with the windshield. Count me in though if you can grab some pics. Love the hood.

greenman, OUKimber, celticstanger and others

i understand your hesitancy to jump in blindfolded with both feet. i guess i'm in a little different situation since i'm the one that will be working directly with the mfgr and will probably be the guinea pig for fit and finish etc. (assuming the darn car is here! GRRRRR! Getting very impatient; especially looking at these pics for the last two days!!! :bang: :bang: )

as you have noted, i can't really provide pictures for something that doesn't exist yet. the only thing i could say at this point is that my intent is to have them produce something that looks exactly like the picture that we have all admired.

there have been questions about whether the scoops will be functional. i would say that if that's what is wanted (and i imagine it would be) then we can have it designed with functional scoops. same goes for washer nozzles. at this point the design is a blank sheet of paper; the finished product will be what we want it to be.

i can find out what material they will be using - i'm guessing it will be some sort of fiberglass/polymer combo; based on info from their site and from emails i've received from the owner. (i'll post those here next).

that said; i'm willing to front the development costs and sell the hoods to you after the fact; with pictures, specs and whatever else you'd want. for anyone who commits to the project at this stage, i would charge a lower rate, like $500, plus shipping from milwaukee. These people also get a say in design. anyone wanting one in stage two, after initial development, would pay more (like $650) plus shipping from milwaukee. i think that is a fair price for the hood. cal-mustang.com lists the GTR hood for $745 and the Saleen hood for $875. i will honor that price for stangnet'ers with join dates prior to 4/15/05 - i reserve the right to sell/ebay it for more to others.

timing: at this point, the shop thinks they can schedule us within the next two months. this would put tentative availability to stage one buyers in june. stage two buyers i'm going to guess would be looking at two to four weeks after ordering.

since i'm probably walking the thin line on what's acceptable for the forum, i'll stop there. pm or email me if you want in, now or later.

let me know.

I'm in on stage one and now price break to boot..Hell yea...I started looking in November and have been round and round several times with ABCEx..and am glad you found someone with their head not up their a$$ and willing to make a buck.
I sent Bob an Email today talking about making the ram air functional..Even sending pics of a functional hood ram air hood..and my engines air box.
Just waiting for a response.

For any interested in the hood...You should understand...If you use this hood for ram air intake you will need to reflash (pred-excal) the computer to adjust for the coldair intake....However... I think it might be possible to install the hood and just not connect it to the air box until you want....I can't see a reason that the air couldn't just blow into the engine compartment(air does already blow in)
The pic below is close to what the underside would look like...with an acordian tube of somesort as a duct to the air intake tube

I sent the info to the other guy we dissgused...I have no idea about him...At this point I don't count him in.

I appreciate you putting your money out on the developement...Thats very cool... :nice:
I remember seeing some 05's for parts..I try to find it and send you a link.

As for this forum....From what I've read...There is nothing wrong with setting this up....many of us on this forum have been interested in this hood and want it made..this is a service to the members here.
