I grind in reverse like everybody else. I have a 97GT but i dont know what kind of transmission it is. But i was wondering what gear i should put in into before reverse because i have been reading other posts and it seems that everybody just has to put in 1st or 5th then reverse just once and it works. but it usually takes me 3-5 times before i can get it into reverse. how many times does it take you to get into reverse and is it normal for someone to take that long before engaging reverse. and will an aftermarket firewall adjuster, quadrant, and an OEM clutch cable make it easier and faster to get in reverse? thanks in advance.

I always put it in 2nd or 4th before I go into reverse. It usually only takes once. The 5 speed in 97 GT's is a T45.

Do you think there could be something wrong. and could a Firewall adjuster, quadrant and OEM cable help out with getting into reverse.

I don't think those will help with not being able to get into reverse. The main problem with the T45 is there are no synchros for reverse. That's why it's so had to get it in gear.

I have the same problem, not really a problem, more like just a small hassle. Ive found it works best for me to put it in fifth and go to the friction point then go into reverse. Dunno about everyone else but thats what seems to work best. And they are right, its because reverse doesnt have syncro's.
