hey does anyone have an aftermarket shifter installed in their car. if so...id like to know which one. steedas tri-ax and hursts shifters are said to be only for the GTs. i really dont understand why because ive seen a hurst shifter installed on a gt and the stocker looked exactly like a v6 shifter. id really like to get a tri-ax shifter so if anyones manage to retrofit one on their stang lemme know. if not ill just have to deal w/ occasionally missing 3rd gear while going down the dragstrip. and i cant stand missing shifts. any help would be appreciated.

Steedas econo shifter has the same pivot ratio as their tri-axe, and same revised short throw (20 or 30% I cant remember) and is supposed to work with the v6 tranny.

Nothing from Hurst yet.

I think I am going to wait until someone comes out with a real nice shifter instead of the "economy" one, especially from what I understand of how these are a pain to put in as I don't want to put something in and then regret it a little later down the line when a nice 'hurst' or 'B&M' short throw comes out! I too hate missin the shifts and it is always frikkin third when I am power shifting aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

How much difference does a speed shifter make? What do they do, exactly? Not to sound redundant, I am aware that it is called a "speed shifter," but how do they make shifting faster? Or shorter?

I have never missed third.... Is it becasue I am not drag racing? How would the shifter make me not miss third?

The concept on a short shifter versus a longer shifter is like this: If you take a yard stick and put it on the floor and move it from point "A" to point "B" which is six inches when you do the same thing with a 12-inch ruler it takes a lot shorter time to move the same six inches. I know there is probably someone on this forum who can explain it better than I, but from my own first hand experience on my '01 GT after I put in my B&M short throw and drove it for a while I noticed a significant diference in shifting (smoother, quicker, more precise, like click, click, click), then I went to trade my GT in and changed it back to the stock shifter (the dealer never knew ha! ha!) it was night and day, it felt like I was rowing a boat! Trust me on this it makes a world of a difference especially when power-shifting!!!

shorter >>>> its just basic trigonometry....

In most cases, these shifters achieve a shorter 'throw' length by reducing the angle movement needed to shift from one gear to the next.
