hello hope any of you can help, I have a 87 5.0 with a rebuilt AOD tranny the valve body has a transgo shift kit and it never had any problems with the tranny intill we re-built it. heres the problem, I put the tranny into 1st gear to take off I floor it and it goes but then when It hits about 4k rpm it shifts by it self into 2nd gear, And it feels like it drops off in power. its really pissing me off cause in the passed it would not shift intill I manually moved it from 1st to 2nd. PLEAse help I will take any help at this point. O yea I took it back to the tranny shop and they cant even figure this out, the guy said he opened it up and everything is still good and the valave body is good. heres my baby help her.....

Are you sure it is getting all the way down to 1st? There is a bracket under the car the shift cable is attached to. Make sure it isnt bent. That would show you in 1st on the selecter but actually be in drive.

Im pretty sure its all the way down. when the tranny guy lifted the car up I went under it with him and the braket that holds the cable was in good condition.

Sounds like a vacuum issue almost to the same way that a regular auto tranny works. When it hits a certain vacuum drop or something it shifts.

Just a thought??

thats the first time I heard of that, I thought the vacumm shifts where for the electronic AODE but I willcertainlly check into that one. it could be. keep the ideas flowing some one gots to have it.

Well I use to have a 86 F-150 built up w/an auto tranny. It was carb'ed and the tranny shifted by vacuum so that's the only reason I thought of that. Not sure on the EFI as I have a T-5 tranny.

Yeah the AOD is controlled with a cable for this app not vacuum. Wish I could say something helpful but have a Transgo kit here myself that likes to shift into OD even though its in the D hole (only when you really mash on it which is just perfect timing to go bangin into OD). Did you use the transgo "shift kit" or "reprogramming kit"?

I have the transgo shift kit, when we first installed it had no prob, and loved the shifts on it, but now I have this prob.

that sounds like a problem with the way the transgo was installed. Something was not done right. See if you can get in touch with a tech at transgo. Surely they've run into this before.

In a way it sounds like your shifter cable is not adjusted right. Jack your car up. Put your shifter in 1rst gear ( Not running of coarse). Get under your car and pop the cable off the shifter arm. Manually move the shifter arm all the to park and then back to 1rst gear and see if your cable lines up. If that doesnt work than pull the pan and valvebody to double check the install of the shift kit with the instructions. There is nothing internally in the trans that would cause your problem. I am a Transmission tech. been one for 12 years.

Ive called transgo and they said to the exact same thing that Baldy1 said I think this weekend Ill take a closer look and see if maybe the shifter isnt going all the way back. thanks for the help.
