Shimming Motor Mounts

I have a MM steering shaft and it is rubbing my headers. If I have hood clearance could I shim the motor mounts where they sit on the K-member? would that cause drive line issues? It would likely change the angle of the drive shaft universals and the pinion angle. Does that cause any issues with the rear end or u joints??

It will change the angle of the drive line but I am not sure it will make a too drastic change. With that being said it could be that your moter mounts are just old and not doing their job any more. You may wan tto look in to prothane ort convertable mounts. Also depending on the interference you may be able to just dimple the spot thats hitting. I had to do this on my Capri back in 1982 when I have hooker headers that hit the starter and steering shaft. They were small dimples on one tube on each side.

Dimple is out of the question. I did the shaft when the headers were out getting JetHot coated. Plus the interference is at the weld on the collector. They are shorty headers.

ok then its motor mounts and tranny mounts. Check them for softness and cracking. I would change all of them since old mounts get soft and lets the engine set lower in the bay. Tranny mount can cause this as well. Get Prothane style mounts, not effected with oils and such.

I have seen people do this without any issues. It really depends on how many shims you plan to add.

I shimmed my old car and had no changes at all. Hel when a mount goes bad an sags it would change the drive line then..
