I don't know where this question would fit in on any forum...but does anyone know of a good vehicle shipping company that is reasonable in price? I'm looking at a classic mustang (no drivetrain) in austin, tx, and I live in easton, Pa. Any help would be great.
It is quite common, and usually the cheapest route, to ship vehicles by train up here. I don't know if that is convenient or practical for you though, but you may want to check it out.
I am actually planning a move right now in which I will be shipping 2 vehicles (mustang & vette) I don't have much info right now as I just started looking, but I do know that if it doesn't run, it will be a bit more of an issue because 'Do they run?" is the first thing they asked me.
I shopped all over the net for a shipping Carrier. I ended up shipping a car I bought from Dana Point California to Austin Texas several years ago for $600. I am sure it will be higher now due to fuel costs. I shipped it un-covered (It came in dirty) but everything went fine. Do a couple of searches then start calling. Get several quotes...
Shippers always ask if a car is running because if not they have to bring a winch to pull it onto the carrier. They like to charge you for that too.
Fed Ex ships cars from what I've found out recently on a vette forum.
Not sure though if they would take it w/ no drive train but they said the price was fair.
I doubt shipping that distance is gonna be cheap, are you sure you can't find a similar deal closer?

Get several quotes as cost will vary by the transport companies standard routes, thus you'll want to find a company whose regular route includes Austin TX and Easton PA. To reinforce the statement above - most transporters only pick up cars that run. Try to deal directly with the transport company in question, as opposed to a broker.
FWIW, I paid $1,200 to transport a running car from CA to CT (enclosed trailer), and that was 5 Years ago.
