I know this souns stupid bit I can't locate the upper mounting bolts for the rear shocks on my 69 fast back. The manual says they are under plugs in the trunk but I can't find them.

You need to remove the rear seat. If you have a fold-down seat, just remove the panel between the seat and trunk door. Look for these oval holes-

Well that answers that question . Would you please give me some guidance on removing the non-fold down rear seat. Thanks in advance!

The 69 is a little different that the earlier ones, but IIRC the steel strip across the top is removed, the retaining bolts disconnected, and the seat hinged forward.
