I have a 66 coupe with a 289. I'm getting ready to put the motor back in, and I'm replacing the motor mounts. I ordered them from mustangs unlimited. Their website says the 66 coupe should use the short style, but it looks like the one I pulled from the car was the tall style? Which is correct? I was hoping to get the motor in this weekend, so I need to figure out if MU is wrong, or someone replaced the mounts with the wrong ones before I bought it. Thanks.

by short style-long style, im guessing you are refering to the mount on the frame... the short style uses a one piece cast mount, and mounts the engine about 1 inch lower in the rails. the long style uses a 2 piece stamped mount, and the engine sets higher in the frame, great for ground clearance, but not so good for hood to aircleaner clearance (i have a 351 in a 65 and the long style mounts, with a wieand stealth intake, and had to use a shelby style fiberglass hood, because the hood didnt clear my air cleaner)

No actually, I think they have the same mounting style, but the "ears" on one of them are about 1" taller than the short ones. I do know the difference between the early year and late year motor mounts, but the mustangs unlimited website (and laurel mustang) list a tall and short style of the same motor mount. I'm quite confused.

This one is listed for the convertible, but looks like the one in my coupe

This is the one I ordered, says for 289 coupe, but shorter than what came out of the car.

Can someone help? I searched and I thought I saw somewhere someone said the descriptions on the mustangs unlimited website were wrong, can someone confirm that for me?

Subscribing. We had to search pretty hard to find a set of the short style for a project on short notice. But they didn't line up with the frame brackets in a 65 FB. I would also like to know what application the short mounts are for.

Motor mounts

I think the difference is in the manufacture date of the car. If before 10/31/65 it is one type I believe the short style, from 11/1/65 it is the tall style. The one you show in your pic is for the convertible from 11/1/65I just installed them on my 66

UPDATE

FYI, the mustangs unlimited website is incorrect I believe. My 66 289 coupe requires the TALL motor mounts, not the short ones MU website says. I brought it to their attention, and they just shrugged it off.

On the bright side...the motor is in. On to the next step.
