Should I convert to rear disc or not?

Hey guys I haven't been on the forums in a few years since I lost my car in Hurricane Katrina. But I just bought an 88 coupe so I'm BAAAAAAACK!!!! Ok, here's what I have. The car is a stock 5.0 car with just exhaust and gears. I want to convert it to 5-lug but I'm debating on if I want to convert to rear disc while I'm at it or not. I don't have a very large budget to work with but if its worth it to do it then I might. I don't plan on road racing the car just street driving and occasional trips to the drag strip. So basically I'm looking for some pros and cons between rear disc and rear drums.

BTW, this will NOT be a daily driver.

rear disc diffently improve braking but cost a couple hundred more to do. I run nothing but disc on all my foxes now days, one of the first upgrades i do now.

Discs are better all around, just a matter of paying to get them.

worth the money.... yes.... necessary given how you plan on using the car... maybe not.......

However, you might feel differently the first time you need to slow down from 120+ and you get the "Pucker effect" when your brakes fade like no one's business.

I think its a worth while investment for anyone with a fox.

I did them, but it does cost a bit more than rear drums (coupe hundred). They look better and stop better, but not 100% necessary.

You know the funny part... Even my '99 F250 has discs all the way around, or so I'm told (by the shop that just did my brakes)!

Well, the 5-lug conversion kit I plan to get is the one with the cobra 13" disc in the front. Thats why I was wondering if the braking would improve that much more with the rear disc. I figured the 13" discs in the front would be good enough. I just don't really want to have to change out the master cylinder and booster and proportioning valve and whatever else is involved. I call me lazy I guess. lol

My buddy's coupe just has a simple Tbird rear end in it with disk brakes and it stops so much better than my car. The front/disks/pads are all stock and it still makes a huge difference.

Yes, rear disk brakes help. If anything they keep braking consistency since drum brakes fade very quickly and can change your pedal feel a bit when they do.

Drum brakes are fine, if you are a truck and only need to stop once.

You should go for it. Since now you can find everything in the junkyard. Not to mention that fox look very good with five lung conversion

Better resale! Everybody who looked at my car wanted rear disc. They frowned when it was drum.

Disc are so much easier to service, I'm going to make damn sure I complete my disc rear end build before the drums on the car needs shoes.

I was wondering the same thing a little bit ago, surprisingly I saw a new car with drums... but drums aren't around like they used to be.

Ok ok ok, yall conveniced me to do. Now I have questions. Do I need to get the brake booster, master cylinder and proportioning valve from a 94-95 car? Give me details on that part please. I want to get the North Race Carsrear disc conversion kit simply because it has all the parts I need.....except the MC, booster, and PV.....I think.

MC you can use either the 94-95 Cobra or GT/V6 or the '93 Cobra MC

Booster you can use the 93 Cobra booster or any 94-95 booster

Don't take the prop valve. Gut yours using the FMS prop valve plug (p/n M-2450-A ) for around $10 and then install an adjustable prop valve on the brass union on the pass side of the firewall.
