My friend is selling his Vortech S-Trim, comes with all brackets, oil lines, Fmu, tubes, everything, for a grand. I know it works, so nothing there to worry about. Think I should do it???? How much is normally all this worth? Thanks!

Its probably worth an easy $1,500, so I would take that. With a stock longlbock and a S-Trim, I went 11.9! Those blowers make for one hell of a ride.

Alright, I think I'll get it. Kinda dumb question but is there any other place I can run the oil drain somewhere I won't have to drill and tap my oil pan. The dipstick tube seems like it would work, I have an old dipstick tube I can connect the line too, when I want to check the oil, check it with the other dipstick....the dipstick hole is below the supercharger, as long as the oil doesn't go above the blower there shouldn't be any problems. this should work right?

I do not want to say it won't work, but the dipstick hole seems a little small compared to the fitting that goes into the oil pan.

I was a little concerned about tapping my oil pan as well, but take your time and you should be ok. By the way, you do not drill the hole. You use a punch to make the hole.

Agreed, just tap the pan. It's not too big of a deal. Pan was tapped on my stock motor with the car on jack stands, flat backin' it. Biggest thing to remember is simply don't get in a hurry, and immediately change your oil.

I've seen people run that line to the valve cover with no apparent problems. But like Alan said, it's not a big deal to actually do it. It's nerve-wracking for a first-timer, but that's all. I think the worst part was getting my hands up in there w/the punch gun because the fit was tight.

You know, another idea would be to take the car to a professional shop and let them tap the pan for you. They could knock it out, saving you the stress, and cap it until you need it.

Thanks for the link ^^^^ 87t-top

I'm not really nervous about doing it but I don't like the fact that when you tap the threads small little metal shavings will be made and you just Hope they will all be caught in the grease you put on the tap and/or flushed out in the oil. I had a bad experience with something like this. Somehow one of the metal o-rings that are in my felpro cork valve cover gasket came out, prob one of the times i took my valve covers off, got in my oil pan got cut up in about a million pieces, locked up my oil pump and broke and twisted my oil pump shaft literally like a twizzler (looks kinda cool actually lol)I got a pic of it somewhere....lost all oil pressure, luckily it just happened in the morning at first immediate start-up, no damage done that I've noticed (knock on wood) been about 4k miles since then plus a drive from TN to NJ and been fine. I took apart the old oil pump and there was a nice size chuck of metal in there, plus a fully lower oil pan covered in little metal shavings, looked like super fine glitter in the oil. Cleaned it out really good, used a rag and some brake cleaner to get it super clean, sucked since i couldnt take the pan down and i was doing it in a parking lot to my apartment at the time I had to reach my whole arm up inside the oil pan, all the way to the back and somehow just got to it all. but o well, all is well. As for letting someone else do it, No One works on my car unless I seriously trust them no matter what it is. I don't have much trust in many people with cars, I learn more and more everyday how dumb some people can be, plus I like the pride in saying I did it all myself, I bored and honed the block myself, all the machine work, assembly, installation etc etc., not many people can say they can do all of it. im going to take a look at that S-trim tomorrow, check out all the blades etc. most likely hold onto it for a while gather up some fuel system parts for it, or if not just sell it......

BTW where can I get the punch and tap for the oil return? how big should the hole/fitting be? Thanks again! Sean

I don't remember offhand the sizing, but you can get a .pdf of the install manual from Vortech's site.

You should be able to find the proper punch/tap sets at a Napa or similar.

I've argued that a blower is better, faster, and cheaper than H/C/I in MANY threads, but there are always people saying otherwise. To each their own.

I agree with that, but I decided to do the H/C/I first, then added a little boost. Much better results.
