I have a 1996 Stang 5.0 that I am rebuilding for the first time.....I am keeping it mostly stock..no forced induction or anything...Anyway i was wondering if it is really worth it for me to have my cylinder heads ported and polished.

BTW - I am still running stock speed density system.

Never hurt..get it done right and you'll get some nice gain from them..not ground breaking, but nice.

Any cylinder head improvments will help. Can you get the heads proted cheap? I it will cost $500-$700, I would just look into Ford GT-40 Y heads. They were on sale at www.buyfordracing.com for $699. Great heads, and leave room to grow.

I would also get some good pistons in that 86, seeing they are flat top pistons and don't leave much room for a cam or better heads... the 86 I believe have E6 heads, which aren't as good. Get some nice pistons with valve relieves and get a set of Thumper ported E7TE heads.. that will help a lot.

Agreed with the above post. You should get yourself a set of E7's at a minimum. The truck head they put on the 86 mustang is horrible. For $250 I have seen E7's ported with larger exhast valves for sale.
