Should I wait for 2006??

Hello everyone, I've been looking at this site for a while just trying to learn as much as possible from everything since I know very little about cars. Anyway my question is should I wait for the 2006 Mustang. I'm going in my last year of school and if I got the 05 I would only be able to drive it on the weekends when I come down. Or wait till the 06 Mustang comes out since I will finish school around this time next year. Either way I already saved up enough money to get her.

Does anyone know what changes they might make on the next years model. When I went to last years Philly Car Show the Ford guy said that they are taking out the side corner windows and I forget what he said they would do with it. Also, I'm not 100% sure but I think he also said there might be a hatchback model. Does anyone else hear anything about the 06 or has an advice.

It would be my 1st Mustang, right now I have a 02 Xterra.

The only major changes are the availability of the vert and the 18" wheels, both of which are actually 2005.5 introductions. They'll probably fix a bunch of small problems that are never publicized, and delete a bunch of content to reduce cost (again, this won't be publicized, and they won't reduce the selling price). Common sense would lead one to believe that there will be a special edition coming down the line sometime soon, but noone really knows yet. There will NOT be a hatchback model, and they will NOT delete the rear quarter windows.

Assuming no major product changes are in order,
it's always better to wait a model year when you
can afford to. Let some bugs get worked out on
the assembly line and you will probably have more
luck negotiating the price down (no longer "new"),
especially if special edition models come out, too.

definitely hold off. The options on the 06 will be better and all the bugs will be worked out. The qtr window may have a factory louvre option, but otherwise will stay put. Invest the money in a reasonable fund and by grad. day you'll pick up a nice present for all your hard work. good luck.

how to buy a 2005

I've looked at the questions on this site and saw a reccomendation to wait and buy the 2006. I can wait, but don't want to, I've also been told that the 2005 was "supposed" to be mechanically sound.
I also hate dealing with car salesmen and usually go through three dealerships to get the deal I want. I was thinking of going with a buying service on this car, but will there be any way to get the price down?

Buy the 05. Anything they're going to change on the 06 will be minor, and you can upgrade the wheels easily enough. The 05 might have a couple of bugs, but even if it does that's why you have a warranty. Ford doesn't always screw up new releases -- the SN95 didn't have any major issues the year it was released .

Everyone should wait. You see the thing is. Every dealer is being allocated 2 for right now. Which means the more people that buy it. The longer I will have to wait to get mine. And that is not a good thing. (Ok sarcasm off). They have warrantees on new cars. And when a recall is had you get it fixed by Ford for free. My car has had 1 recall. Fixed for free in less than a day. But if you really are paranoid about getting a new car. Wait until they are 10 years old. That way any recalls will be known. (Ok so a little more sarcasm slipped in)

I keep hoping for that but so far I haven't heard anything. I don't understand why this isn't a standard color with the Mustang. Does it not sell well or something?

I would like to think that it has something to do with keeping it a bullit only color. I have seen someone try to copy a black bullit. But green would be a lot harder.

Only time will really tell. But I imagine Ford wants to do it right.

I'm waiting to see if there will be a Boss, Shelby, or something else to sweeten the pot for 2006.

I can always go test drive 2005s to feed my lust.

If you are concerned about performance, I have some preliminary 1/4mi ET info. Ford had two of their '05 GTs on the US 131 Motorsports Park track this past weekend. Dr. Jamie Meyer (of NMRA fame) made a few passes...broke traction in 1st and 2nd...14.7s at around 98mph. Given that, it looks like more of the same for bone stock performance we have been dealing with for the past 15-20 years.

What were the conditions, temp, humidity, what's the elevation also? Was it an auto or a 5 sp? I'm more then willing to bet the 05 GT will be on par with the current Mach 1s.
