Has anyone else bought these? If so, how do you like them and how are they holding up?

Good call putting "Mustang" like that on the deck lid..nice touch. I dont know about how it is in your neck of the woods but where I live people would pull the letters off just to hate on your car. As if there is nothing better to do.

I got them in a few weeks ago. Local Ford dealer installed for $80. They're holding up well, and I think the pictures speak for themselves.

I don't like non functional parts either, but they are good looking louvers for sure. The price is right too.

My scoops are functional. I'm machining some custom caps for the nuts on the inside.

This picture just convinced me to order a set. Not quite the correct look for a '69 Boss, which I'm mimicking, but damn they look cool. Did the $80 include painting?

DarkFireGT - That looks sweet. Another question for ya, what hood is that you have? It gives good balance from the side shot. I will definitely be ordering a set of the louvers for mine now!!! The only catch is I won't get the painted since it basically doubles the price. I am also getting a new wing and possibly some C scoops so it'll be worth painting local. I wil be using the ford dealership to have the louvers installed though. Thanks for the input, it definitely looks sweet!!

anthony05gt - I like the functional scoops too but just a question for ya. Wouldn't it look better if the inside of the scoop was painted to match? Its hard to tell from that pic if the machined look goes with the car.

They are functional. I can still see out of them, as opposed to pretty much every other louver, but I know what you were getting at.

Well, the only window treatment out there that would go with the 69 boss theme looks like crap. I usually love Cervini's stuff, but they messed up with that one. Actually, I purchased the painted ones from SHR for $300. $80 was for installation. Most people are paying between $100 and $150 for installation. If you purchase them, get the prepainted ones. You'll be hard pressed to find someone to paint them for much less than $150, and most painters have had trouble painting them. The paint match from SHR is dead on and high quality.

Actually, that's the stock hood with the GT Appearance Package hood scoop. I highly, HIGHLY recommend buying the painted ones. I know you're having other work done, but these can be tricky, and I haven't heard of too many good experiences from people who had them painted by someone. Theres a huge thread on the mustang source dot com about these, in the exterior mod section. Everything you need to know is located there. I can't direct link in here.

Darkfire Gt, the old stangs from the 60's had vents in the louvers with a slider that a rear seat occupant could use to bring in fresh air. The Silverhorse jobs do not, so they are non-functional.

I met Marcello of SHR at Mustang week and he's a stand up guy and all his stuff I've bought from him have been amazing and had good support for the products. I highly recommend these guys.

I realize that. But I carry no passengers, and they still maintain more functionality than any other scoop or louver on the market. Air conditioning also wasn't standard back then, so times change.

I don't see what the big deal about functionality is. So what if a scoop isn't "functional" in a mechanical sense. If it looks good, then it's visually functional. My louvers replaced a functional glass window, functional being I could see through them. These louvers also maintain visibility, yet add additional functionality by being visually appealing.

Honestly, some people take the functionality thing way too far. Some things don't need to look good to mechanically function. Other things don't need to mechanically function to look good. Just because it doesn't mechanically function, doesn't mean it isn't a worthwhile modification.

I see your point which is also your opinion. I just personally like the look of certain things too, but I won't put a fake hood scoop on my car so I bought a ''real'' ram air hood. I waited around for somebody to come out with louvers or scoops that have vents (I prefer scoops) and it didn't happen, so I made a set. They look cool which is why I like them, but they also actually work well with no noise or leaks. I really don't like when somebody I respect (or not) looks at something on my car and comments about it being a fake part. I mean, when you see a high end Porshe or even the Ford GT, the scoops and such are real functional parts with a purpose and true functionality and I just happen to respect that. I would in no way try to say the Silverhorse louvers are stupid because they are decent looking as I said in my first post on the subject. I just have my preference and Ive got the experience to take raw metal and make something happen, so why not? When I take my car out to the track or anywhere on the street, people are all over the scoops looking in the windows to see how they work and telling me how cool they think they are. It makes all the work worth it and they are the only set out there too.

Lets not get into a pissing match about this. Believe me, If I didn't have the experience I'd put something just like that on my car for certain.

Anthony, don't get me wrong. That post was not entirely directed at you. I've just seen it on this and other boards, where someone gets flamed because something is not functional, in a mechanical sense. It just really irks me. Just because something doesn't add functionality to a car, I've seen several people completely flame people about putting it on their cars. And while beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the majority of Mustang owners will agree to some extent on most items as to whether they look good or now. And usually the items in question do look good.

You scoops are definitely unique and functional to boot. If something similar was mass produced, I would definitely purchase them. But I'm a perfectionist with little mechanical ability other than hand tools, so I want something that is mass produced at least to some extent, and perfected.

Sorry I know I got a bit overprotective. It wasn't about you. Just these boards in general. People get a lot "bigger" on the internet, and sometimes it just annoys me to no end.

I used to have a "thing" about non-functional items, especially hood scoops that just add drag but then when you consider most modern cars are about styling, not function, you can pretty much forget the objection. Most spoilers do squat and are purely cosmetic until well over 100mph (hell even the Boxster in the UK and the old Corrado had the retractable spoiler lift at a lower non-functional speed just for the show). So if you approach the non-functional as a simple styling issue, it becomes no better and no worse than any other car on the road. Even the Mustang front grille is only "part-functional", the Corvette C5 side vents are non-functional, even your lights are non-functional in daylight so should retract....

I really like these SHR louvres. Anyone fit them themselves and regret it?

I haven't heard of any installation problems. Just take your time. The only problems I've heard of are people trying to get them painted themselves.
