Anyone have problems passing emissions tests in NC that have SLP's or any other axle back type exhausts? Thanks.

Axle backs have nothing to do with emissions.

If they require a visual inspection, then yeah, that would fail.

That's weird. That must be why they failed them. Is there any way around that besides replacing them with the old mufflers? I'm just a little mad because I thought these were going to be A-OK and now they aren't. Arrrgh.

Slip the guy a $20?

Probably not, just swap the mufflers out for the stockers. Takes less than an hour in the driveway.

LoL, I should try that. I just hate having to swap like that, although it is only once a year. Oh well, thanks for the heads up!

They should've told you why it failed. Especially if it failed visual or emissions. Like it was stated before, mufflers have nothing to do with emissions. You could also try just taking the car to a different shop. Many won't even check the mufflers in most states...

I posted this before I went to the shop and they had not given me the details exactly over the phone yet. It ended up being the emissions because they couldn't use a "sniffer" anymore. I'm just going to take it to another place and see if they will slide it through. It's pretty ridiculous to me because the cats are there, never tampered with, etc. The wonderful gov't sticking their heads in on stupid stuff, as usual.

I don't see what mufflers have to do with the sniffer. Who knows.

What a crap law! I think all of that is garbage, they should leave us alone.

They are doing studies now to prove that LOUD cars are actually safer because motorists and pedestrians are more aware of them, and are less likely to run in front of them or cut them off.

Here in Ohio, if you don't throw a code, your on the road. They only sniff the pre-OBD II computered cars and scan the newer ones. They look under the car with a mirror and these 6.25 an hour idiots wouldn't know a stock muffler from a glass pack or do they care. Most people a round here fail because of a gas cap seal.

I'm in NC and was told the car has to have mufflers. I just put the stockers back on for inspection and swap them back after.
