Probably a dumb question but can I put them together and stll be safe? Is there a conversion/adapter bearing or something? I have a set of 31 spline axles for a factory rear end housing, but my versailles rear end housing is a big bearing. So what do you all think?

No, no conversion bearing, but if you must you can buy a small bearing housing ends and have them welded on.
I don't know of any conversion bearing for what you want to do, my question is "What axles are you using?" As far as I know, the only small bearing 31 spline axles Ford ever made were the ones for 66-71 Fairlanes, Torinos or 67-73 Mustangs & Cougars and the 72 Lincoln Mk IV. None of these would fit the Versailles housing even with the conversion bearing.

What is so special about a Versailles housing other than it is a bolt-in size wise for a 65-66? I mean, isn't it just a small bearing 9?
Just because FoMoCo never put 31s in a small bearing 9 does not mean they don't exist. I recently bought a bolt-in set for my direct-fit small bearing 9.

The axles were made for a small bearing. They have a 1.35 dia. shaft so the inner dia of the bearing will be 1.35. The versailles uses a big bearing, so if I use a versailles bearing the bearing won't press on, it will just flop around.

ahh, ok then look for bearings for i think mid 70's torino's. they use bearings the same size as the versaille, but had the smaller 28 spline axles.
if you cant find a bearing from an auto parts place that works, you can find a bearing supplier that has all kinds of bearings for more applications than you could ever imagine. just tell them what you need.
