Smog delete

My 5.0 still has the smog pump running, i was wondering if i need to get the delete kit which just looks like a pulley so i don't have to get a new belt, or can i just rip it out and get a new belt. I did however just replace my belt but a new belt is cheaper than the delete kit... Also if there are any advatanges that i do not know about that the smog pump provides let me know though i've only been told to take it out by just about everyone.

no need for a pulley, just route it different. Do a search for "smog delete" there's tons of posts that will help you out. And yea, get rid of it!

X2 .... new belt route... if you have stock pulleys AZone 860k6 or after market small pulleys 845k6

That is definitely the way to do it. I've had 5 different vehicles that I always used that routing on with no issues.

A lot of people that don't know what they are doing will tell you it won't work that way (all the pulleys spin the same way as stock) and route it the other way, but the belt runs the risk of rubbing itself.

perfect thanks for the help, i do have one other question though... What if i remove my ac, do they make a belt for that too or will i need to get one made? the guy who had the car before me removed all of the ac except the compressor( i'm guessing that's what it's called). Should i still try to get rid of it or will i not notice a difference? If so os routing still possible with the smog gone or do i need a pulley for the ac? Thanks again guys!

Wondering the same thing Hambone85gt ^ but for a 94 gt? Since i have an idler and the tensioner is in a different location?? Not trying to hijack ur thread or anything :/

If you still have catalytic converters on the car, disabling the smog air pump (Thermactor Air System) is a bad idea. Without the extra air provided by the smog pump, the cats may clog and fail.

No cats, 2 1/2 tube, xpipe, shorty tuned headers and proflow mufflers, there is alot of delete pully options out there i just wanna clean up the engine bay and relieve some unecessary drag on the crank. Id rather just take it out than buy a delete pully if its possible. As well as the AC

Ford racing A/C delete is the answer. There is an 86-93 version and a 94-95 version. It's gotten pretty pricey though. Used to be $35
