I wouldnt mind some information on how to do this. When i delete the smog system i will be replacing the pulley with the correct pulley delete. also i will be putting on BBK equal length shorty headers. any help is appreciated!

Unbolt away. The easiest way to get rid of the thermactor pipe is to buy the thermactor plugs. They are available on Summit. Unplug all the colored lines and stick a bolt in the end. Plugging the T on the H-pipe is a little trickier.

This is a fairly easy project and I wouldn't even bother with a smog pulley delete as you can bypass it altogether and save some $$$. Start by removing the smog pump hoses. I believe there are three connections you will need to loosen: one from the pump, one from the pipe coming from the heads, and the one that goes to the pipe leading to the h-pipe. They are just hose clamps so loosen them up and pull the everything off. You need to decide how you want to deal with the pipe that comes off the back of the heads. Leave it and plug the end with a 3/4" female pipe cap, or remove it and plug the holes on the back of the heads. Next, plug off the vacuum lines that were connected to the air control valve and the diverter valve. Now remove the smog pump. Here is a link on how to route the belt without the smog pump: http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/threads/schematic-and-routing-for-short-belts.646822/
Now, if your smog line is still connected to your h-pipe, you will have to remove that and plug it. You can use heater hose and and a 3/4" male pipe plug with a couple of hose clamps to do it or you could take the car down to the local muffler shop and have them weld it shut.

I don't use the delete pulley, but I do get a lot of tensioner movement. I honestly think it works better with the delete pulley.

will removing this pump cause the check engine light to come on? I want to remove it, but won't do it if that light comes on.

Also if I remove the pump, do I need to remove the EGR valve as well?

The smog pump and EGR are completely separate systems and yes, you can delete the smog pump and not get a check engine light.

just remember to put all the parts in a box and pack it away. one day you may sell it or change your mind on the delete. things like this become hard to find in time. i just went thru putting it all back on, parts were "gaining value" quickly as i looked for replacements.

What is the problem with selling it and not having it on there?

The problem with mine is that the bearings are going bad in it and it squeels. Would rather not have it if I don't need it.

the tubing, valves and such can be hard to find 10 or 20 years down the line. the actual pump is replaceable at the parts store

Kurt,

Do you have any tips for installing the thermactor plugs? I have the Ford ones which are covered in the dry red thread-lock. I wasn't sure if it's best to run them down with a stubby flat-head, or if it works better to use a bolt on the inner-thread to drive them down all of the way.

Also, what's the best way to get the thermactor tube out once it's unbolted from the two heads? It looks like it can just be unbolted, and then rotated around towards the starter and the out through the bottom - assuming that the passenger side header and H-pipe have already been removed.

Thanks,
Mike

Here's a link to the plugs from Summit. I like the TFS ones since they are zinc plated. I think the Ford ones are bare, which might make removing them a serious challenge after some miles.

RJM sells an EGR delete resistor in a nice neat factory looking plug that you plug into the EGR connector.
I have also heard that you can fasten the EGR sensor firmly in it's closed postition, and that will keep from setting a light as well.
