smokin stang..and not in a good way

today i noticed some smoke comming from my car...i just got home from an hour freeway drive, i was crusin about 70-75 and then when i got home my car was smoking so i checked underthe hoood and all seem to be fine then i checked my tranny(know for leaking like crazy) and it was leaking as usal but no smoke. but then i saw smoke comming out of my exhaust where my headers bold onto the pipes...its pretty new exhaust(maybe 2 months old) so i thought maybe it was just the gaskets settling in...what do you guys think?

Are they long tube headers? It's possible that tranny fluid got on the exhaust and is burning off. Same goes for any minor oil leaks that hit the exhaust.

Have you driven it much since you installed the exhaust? If this is the first trip you took that got the exhaust hot, it might be burning off any oil residue from the install.

Just some thoughts...

it was like 2500 miles on the exhaust...they are long tube headers..it didnt seem to be the oil burning on them because the connections on both headers where leaking

Exhaust leaks don't smoke.

It doesn't matter if they are completely unbolted, with the engine off, there should be no exaust smoke.

I agree with 69PaleHorse, it sounds like tranny fluid burning off of the hot pipes. Could also be engine oil..

that what i figured so i was thinking maybe the gaskets take a long time to settle but i dunno. thanks guys

You may want to also check the seal at the back of the intake manifold. A long freeway drive may have created enough crankcase pressure to cause the seal to develop a leak. Look for oil running along the back seam where the head meats the block. Also, check you PCV valve and breather for proper operation
