So I've noticed some smoke coming out of my tails, seems to be worse after the car is warmed up. I noticed that it is at its worst when the car is warm, I shut it down for a few, then restart. Does this sound like rings or valves to anyone? I forgot to mention: I've been using oil, that's why I suspect rings or valves.

If your 5.0 are like most of the other one out there, you will be pushing hundred thousand miles on the engine easy. They are build strong and tough, but sooner or later it will reach its limit.
I have hundred thirty thousand miles on my engine and it is still running strong, and so far it is not smoking or burning oil. Keeping my finger cross.

Get a compression/leak down test done and you should get a fair idea what shape your engine is in.

Good Luck.

Yeah, this engine only has about 13k on it, but it sat around for a while as the car was being rebuilt.

the possibility exists that your valve seals are bad. Depending on how long the engine sat could be the factor in that. Also, even though the engine has 13k, you may have a ring issue. what kind of rings did you use during your build?

I'm not sure what rings were used, probably something equivilent to standard stock rings since the motor was ordered by the shop from Ford.

Could be valve stem seals, those are (relatively) easy to replace. Just need compressed air to hold the valves up.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, it doesn't seem to smoke while driving, or at least not that i can see. I had another car years back with blow by issues that would put out a puff every few minutes, this car is not doing that. I'm also going to change the PCV valve in case that's the culprit.
