I am getting off topic :OT: But Yes I understand your point. and my ap0ologies to wystang but the whole situation po's me. I guess I am upset over a fellow enthusiast that put a lot of time in his car and the one time he hits it, he gets nailed and gets no break and is ready to turn in his blue oval. So yes I am po'd about it. Its not like he was in heavy traffic or continuing on for long periods of time or swerving in and out of cars. The truth is that he was cruising down a major hwy for a short period and was letting off the gas in seconds. No one was getting "t-boned" or hurt.

Just the other day my friend was telling me how he gets pulled over by fellow cops including state - all the time and gets off, I shook my head in disgust in a way when I compare this to the above. Like I said, been there, done that, got the t-shirt and I know how the system works.

edit - as to the beautiful chick in the passenger seat. Yes it works. I hear this time and time again.

So back to the thread. Are cobra radar detectors junk? I understand their limitation is the lack of 360* coverage and limit on range to like 2 blocks..anyone?

If their range is really limited to two blocks, the radar detector is worthless. You travel two blocks in a heartbeat on the freeway, which is way too short to be of any use.

Hmm, should I toss in my opinions any more? I'm already biased towards the Valentine One, and I will recommend against using any other detector.

Here's an update on Utah laws. Apparently now you cannot request a copy of the radar logs anymore. I guess they changed this since 3 days ago when a friend got pulled over and was shown copies. So now I am stuck with a ticket for going 53 in a 35 when really I was going about 40. The officer stated this when I asked for copies of the logs "I do not have them. I do not need them and nor am I required to show you." and when I asked when the last time the radar in his patrol unit was last calibrated he said this "My radar does not need to be calibrated, it's digital." So comes fun in court. I'm just hoping he doesn't show up that way I win. Here in Utah the first 15 minutes in court are free, after that you start getting court fee's added on.

I think I will make a request to get a copy of when the last time that radar was calibrated, log copies, and a copy of the video from the traffic camera on that intersection to show there were cars in front of me traveling faster and he just picked me out of the crowd. Ok enough ranting. Time for bed.

Slow Down

If you are going to speed make SURE you know the area and there is no one around.

If I'm speeding on the highway it is always behind a car going the same speed.

It is fun to have alot of power in a car but you have to know the right time and place to use it.

The best thing i've found is to know the areas you drive in. Out of state, or even out of town you're better off staying close to the limit. When you know the backroads, you'll learn where they can and cannot sit, as they need ample space to pull you over. Never speed through main-street type areas. On the highway, if you're gonna haul ass, do it in the slow lane. Very rarely will you see troopers running radar from the right shoulder, they're almost always on the median, which means you're somewhat shielded by vehicles to your left.

Just don't speed. If you want to go fast, hit the track. If you live near vegas I know it's only $10 to hit the track every saturday night.

Within reason, everyone speeds. No one does 55 mph all the time and we didnt build these cars to occasionally not hit it.

True, usually people follow the 5+ rule. But when you break the speed excessively by doing maybe 50 in a 25, then you shouldn't be driving. Point is, there's places that you are allowed to go as fast as your car can. Stick to them and you'll have fun.

Yes, makes sense to me. Also, speeding thru residential areas. Hit a kid and big trouble not to mention being attacked by justifiably angry parents watching you motor thru.

I use a Escort Solo2 detector and it works awesome!! It's the highest rated battery powered detector. I don't want a cord...I have 7 vehicles and I just have mounts in all the cars.

I got a book about 10yrs ago on how to speed and not get caught. One of the things I remember was when passing cars be within 5mph or so. Its hard to tell your speed when you are all alone but if you pass a guy on the road going 20 or 30mph faster it really catches a cops eye. We have Freeways where I live and if I'm by myself I will go faster....then when I come up on cars I slow down and go by them slowly. It's the cops that may be behind you and will start pacing if something catches their eye. Also when coing up to blind hills I normally slow down, if a cop is on the other side and then turn's his gun on he has you even though your detector goes off it's too late.
