So It Looks Like The New Ford Gt Is A Big Hit....

I just don't get excited about six-figure cars that I won't likely ever be able to afford and even if I could I'd never buy.

Old mid 90s Vipers that are finally under $30k for decent examples with salvage titles? Sure. I could sell the F150 and buy one of those bishes tomorrow.

10-year-old Vettes with the base V8 and a stick that I can buy for the same price? Oh yeah, I've thought about it several times.

New Lexus IS250s and used IS-Fs in the $30k range? You better believe it.

New Mustang GTs when the rebates are good and they dip down to (and once in awhile they still do) below the $30k mark? Absolutely.

$400,000 cars with the wrong engine for the car, with a face that ugly, zero practicality, and no chance of EVER being below $100k, even on the used market?

No thank you.

I have a real soft spot for the GT40 I have loved that car since the first time I saw a picture of one. I don't mind the six Banger with two turbos that's fine with me although I think it would have been better to use a inline six.
I never considered putting anything smaller than a V8 into a sports car until I started driving my own EcoBoost F-150. I'll tell you what if I had another Fox to start over with I wouldn't hesitate to pull the 2.7 EcoBoost out of an F150 and slap it on there

I've really been thinking about grabbing another 4 banger and throwing an ecoboost in it. I think that's a swap we'll see a lot of in the near future. The new 5.0 is nice....but twice the price.. . I'm not even going to mention a Ford GT.

I have no problem with a v6 F150, I daily one. If I'm buying a sports car, musclecar, or supercar, the bish better have 8 or more cylinders. Sports luxury sedans can have 6 (especially the Infiniti G35/37 and the Lexus IS), but not something like the GT. Jaguar already found out the hard way with the XJ220.

If the Ford GT makes all that power with a v6....imagine what a twin turbo v8 would do.....or a twin turbo v10.

Not my sport luxury Sedan. :fuss:
No, Cadillac doesn't even need six. That turbo 4-banger ATS drives like a damned dream. I don't know who's picking powertrains at Caddilac lately, but they're doing a damned good job from the 4-banger ATS to the various 3.6 models all the way to the supercharged V8 CTS-V (driven most of them at work).

Everyone seems to forget WHY the GT has a V-6. They choose that engine because it allows them to design the aero package on the car for optimal downforce without drag. A larger V-8 would have comprimised the overall goal of the car. Yes a TT V-8 would make more power, but when you can make more than is needed with the smaller/lighter engine and meet design goals, that is what you do. The GT is power restricted by the rules of GTE Pro class that it runs in already, The street car without the restrictions will be mor powerful than the race car. And I am sure the street car is a few mods away from being close to the 1K power level. Someone with some extra cash laying around will show up at the Texas Mile with a tricked out GT and turn that event on its head.

But, writing is on the wall. V8s are not relevant anymore. the previous V8 GT was 550HP. This one is 630 with 2 less cylinders?

Even the v8 F150 doesn't seem necessary anymore with the numbers the 3.5 puts down

Ford has been impressing me with their HP numbers lately. Even the N/A3.5 in my Taurus has 290HP, pulls hard on the highway and gets 30-31mpg. Impressive

The 3.5 in my Taurus is a slug. There are no hard pulls coming from my car. I guess the key to power is how much you actually can use. A twin turbo v10 2k HP Ford GT would be awesome to see in production though.

In reality the engines produced these days will not last as long as our old iron engines. They are no where near as serviceable. One day our love of modding cars engines will fall to the wayside.

I dunno. I took my old G35 to 200K miles without doing anything to the engine other than a single spark plug change and some oil changes. It ran as strong then as when I bought it new...and I certainly didn't drive that car easily.

I probably could have gone to 250k before getting rid of the car had the driveshaft not fallen off at 80mph

What is the realistic lifespan of a small turbocharged V6 putting out that much power? Surely a larger, naturally aspirated V8 with the same power will last longer as it isn't being pushed as hard. So they are still relevant over the long term.

But, a v6 with an exhaust doesn't sound the same as a v8 with an exhaust  The engine on my fox is stock, but it sounds like a bad mother you know what ...... Can't do that with a v6

If I've got a "racecar" I want it to sound like a racecar
