I'm putting an FTI cam, AFR 165 heads, and Edelbrock Performer intake along with some other things on within a month hopefully...

What all bolts do I NEED or would be necessary to replace...boy all these little things sure add up :( :nice:

Do I need to replace my lower intake and upper intake bolts?...I know summit sells bolts for that specific Performer intake?

What about header bolts?...

Timing cover and water pump bolts...?

I have the head bolts covered...

What are some other bolts I need to swap out?

Thanks...

All the bolts I got were ARP Head Studs and Stage 8 locking header bolts. Other than that, clean the ones you have up, soak 'em in some gas or something and maybe hit 'em w/ a wire brush to get the gunk off and throw 'em back in. It's recommended to chase the theads to clean them out as well, but I didn't do that. I'm not sure about the performer intake...don't know if the bolts are the same or what.

i would get new intake bolts if you can, some of them get bad after all those years of sitting. just from my experience of doing my swap, i had 3-4 degraded intake bolts.

When swaping my heads I had to get what i think they call helicoils. These are the "reducers" that some of the accessories bolt into. They are on the ends of the heads and sometimes you can get them out of your stock heads, mine were rusted and actually stopped me from finishing my head swap in one day. I had to order them from Ford.

Helicoils are for repairing damaged threads. What you are talking about are simply plugs for the Thermactor holes that also let accessory fasteners use the hole. I believe you can also get them from some autoparts stores. My Edelbrocks came with two for each head, yet I only needed one for each since I still use a smog pump.

As for replacing fasteners, all that is really mandatory is a set of head bolts. I got a new cam sprocket bolt too, but thats because I built my engine from scratch and didnt haave many parts to reuse.

I got the ARP head bolts...

What about these timing cover and water pump bolts...ARP-154-1504...for Ford: 289-302, black oxide, hex head, timing cover and water pump bolt kit...for $22... from Summit Racing...

Also...is thread sealer and loctite the same thing?

Every bolt going into the block and heads needs to have thread sealer on it right?...or what certain ones?

Thanks for the suggestions...

get some ARP thread sealer and throw it on the ones that go into the holes where the anti-freeze is (bottom bolts). Just get some anti-seize for the others. I don't know why you'd need new water pump bolts unless you lost some - in that case you COULD go to lowes and get replacements. The only ones lowes doesn't have are those two-sided bolts with threads on both sides (alt bracket hooks to them) and those are $8 from ford :bang: . It's your money, if you feel the need for new bolts, buy them.

Okay so thread sealer on the bottom row of head bolts...30w oil on the top...

I have heard the water pumps get "somewhat" briddle...and I was wondering if there up to the task of tightning...I guess if I can get them out fine...I can put them in fine...

So the only thing (while doing a H/C/I swap) to put ANTISEIZE on is the lower head bolts?...it isn't used for anything else...

So you all think that the lower intake bolts will fine?

Also...what are the part #'s for the header bolts...I have heard some of those Stage 8 locking header bolts are to long or to short for the AFR heads...((I have Mac Equal Length 1 5/8 headers by the way)...
