It's the only real fault I can find with the new car. Why are they so darn big and ugly, and how much would it really cost to paint them body color? An extra $5? And that big triangular section coming off the door sure makes the door look funky when open.

I'm thinking you haven't seen many current mustangs. That triangle piece has been on mustang doors since at least 94. Probably longer.

On the first ones, 64 1/2 had that there but it was a glass vent

So People for SOME reason like it Not paint body color- Body color all the way- .. just have a Body shop paint them, i'm sure you will not be the only guy doing it.

The look is carried over from the 65-70 Mustang Door panels-

I don't care for the little light on bottom. Looks like they stuck it on at the last min.

should be blended into the panel.. like they been doing all along

I honestly kind of like them black, because they do not distract from the rest of the profile from a sideview. Maybe painted black even. I could see it either way.

Seen 'em, driven 'em quite a bit. Guess I wasn't paying attention. But are they that pronounced on the SN95s? And are the rear-views that big? The lack of body paint doesn't bother me that much.

Yeah I think all 94+ Mustang owners get the shaft by getting unpainted mirrors.

Well the 03+ cobras have em painted and they are retractable.....so this to me is just another way Ford is being cheap and scamming its core group of mustang fans.

My old Firebird (sorry for using the F-word here) had painted mirrors. They also sold "mirror bras" to protect the paint on them. Mirrors, sticking out like that, are very prone to scrapes, scratching, nicks, dings, chips, etc.

Personally, I like the black plastic mirrors because they tend to be immune to such wear-and-tear.

Yea, it is certainly cheap to have a new car, with newly designed mirrors, and not have those mirrors have the "little things" like directional markers and puddle lights built into them.

Again, just how many $30,000 brand new cars do you see coming out today without stuff like that built into the side mirrors???

I don't know, I am happy with the quality of the 05 interior. Sports cars were never meant to be very comfortable or have a nice interior. Most of the money is for the engine and such.

Well they are the f150 mirrors thats why. And the pony package and 40th anniversery cars get them.. I am kinda pissed the machs didn't get em

Well they sure look like truck mirrors. Did they really come out of the F150 parts bin? If so, that's kind of lame.

I think the black mirrors give the car's color scheme a better balance. There are other spots of black on the car, such as scoop vents, tires, and such. I think Cobra's with their's painted look like they have Dumbo ears, or belong to the British Royal Family...

well, FWIW it's rare that the first year of production on a new model gets color coded mirrors. IIRC 96/97 cobra's had black mirrors, and in 98 they had color-keyed mirrors. i know it might seem cheap but it costs ford a lot of money to add an assembly line to paint every mirror. as for the triangular section, it's been there since 94 as stated. truthfully, even the fox has it but the fox also has the window frame so it's not as pronounced.

i also don't like the light on the door.

No, color coded mirrors first appeared in 2003, everything before that and all non-Cobras have black plastic mirrors.

Are you refering to the side view mirrors, the ones that are meant to see in you blind spot, and are monted on the doors? Or, are you refering to the rear view in that is mounted on the windshield, cuz that would look kinda stupid painted the same color as the body.

I think the mirrors are styled nicely, look totally at home on the new-style Mustang, irregardless of what bin they came out of. And why would anybody with a life care whether the mirrors are shared with a truck, or the seats with a Mazda (which Ford owns anyhow) etc.etc...ANYWAYS? If it looks good, feels good, and IS good, I don't care if the part got swiped from a YUGO. Get over it. Parts sharing has been going on since the flippin 50's, and it makes perfect business sense, and it significantly adds to the affordability of your ride. Early Mustangs shared their seats with the Bronco, I don't remember hearing any whining that "my car has truck seats". Back to the mirrors, I kinda like that they're a little big. Tiny mirrors are useless for zipping and weaving through traffic effectively. A little bit of an oversized mirror allows for good peripheral strategery. The only way you can reduce the size of the mirror without losing viewing area, is to mount the mirror closer to the driver's head. The geometry of the car, where the front seat is pretty far back in respect to the A-pillar, requires a fairly good sized mirror in order to meet what are likely Ford corporate safety minimum standards for the mirror view area. It's the same reason that GM F-bodies, with their long dashes and huge distance from a-pillar to driver, also had big ole honkin mirrors.
