Ok, a few head questions. Cylinder heads that is, get your minds outta the gutter

I need to do my head gaskets so obviously my stock heads are going to be coming off for a brief time.

Is it worth it to have any work done to the stock heads? Money is tight so I can't afford real good heads at the moment, what does a good port & polish usually cost? And again - would the power gain be worth the money, or should I just look around to find better heads at a low cost?

Also, is there anything else I should consider doing while the heads are off?

Trying to go fast on a *tight* budget sucks. Any input would be great.

There are lots of good articles on port and polish, if you want to save some cash do'em your self, and if you are worried about screwing them up then just buy another set to work on e7's are pretty cheap. In Canada around here a decent port and polish goes for about 750 or more, but if you are looking to go that far then I believe that World castings has e7's with bigger valves set into them for a decent price.

Hey. I have a set of stock E7s sitting in my shed from when I swapped my GT40P heads in. I'll hook you up cheap if you want a set to try and home port. My friend did it with his, and he makes really good power and torque (albeit he's got a vortech on there now). Let me know. Also, a good set of roller rockers will free up some horsepower and reduce friction, thereby increasing valvetrain stability. Rockers can be had for around 100.00

Are roller rockers tough to install? I'm somewhat accident-prone when it comes to fine manipulation.

I might do that then, anyone have a preference as far as what type/brand to use?

As far as your E7s astro, send me a PM and I'll see what I can do :-)

whith the heads off Hell NO!!! lol maybe 1 hour. harland sharp is what i prefer and are gonna be useing with my combo. 1.6 rr's will be good for you, porting isnt hard and if you match with a gasket damn near impossible to destroy. and yes you might see 20 or 30 hp and way better throttle responce and low end tourque. also while you have em off might want to take a look at those valve seals.
