somebody shoot me!

The lifters are definitely good for 7000+ RPM. Had them run in a 331 stroker and they are hard to beat.

Your problem, I feel, it with your distributor. At around 6000 RPM you are pushing a lot of air into that chamber, very rapidly. Your distributor will DEFINITELY have a problem if it is the stock piece. Alot of air and fuel is nice but if you can't burn it, it is of no use. It won't be able to accurately advance the timing so aggressively, seeing as the original 85 mustang topped out revs at 5500 rpm.

Another reason why you might not have experienced this problem with the higher compression ratio, is that the higher compression ratio would have helped out igniting the mixture by just compressing the mixture itself.(similar to how a diesel works)

I would consider getting a better distributor, thicker wires, a good cap and rotor, and some top notch plugs that are properly gapped.

Best of luck!

Your post confirms kinda what i was thinking. Thanks for all of your replies! Encouragement is what keeps me around these things sometimes! Keep the ideas coming as i will try them until something gets figured out, i never have been one to quit! I just dropped the distributor off to be recurved and have the vac advance locked out (finally) What you say does make sense about the higher compression!

I can't believe your running in the 11's and you are still using stock ignition pieces. That was one of my first upgrades. Maybe it wasn't nessesary right off the bat but it looks like you need to do it now. BTW the spark plugs you are using have you ran them with the nitrous shot before? Everytime i run my car on the spray it seems like i have to replace my plugs as the engine starts to delelope a miss. After new plugs installed it runs like a top again. I was thinking this could be part of your problem not getting full spark.

no, i have not even sprayed on the motor since the heads/intake......yeah i was kinda thinking to myself today, "Im and idiot for running that distributor.... but hey it almost got me into the tens"! HAHA

i know a guy who was running 8.90's in the 1/4 with a 347 and a stock 302 distibutor. he advised me never to waste my money on an expensive distro...

I mean his car was fast but dont you think it would be quicker if he invested the$200-$300 on a better unit? all i know is he was fast with the stock one, thats for sure.

kinda the reason why i didnt buy an msd.......Am i wrong in assuming that it wouldnt matter as much since all the timing should be in by 2500rpms?

Ok so he has a stock unit. How much money has he spent upgrading the stock unit? He must have done some work to it. 200-300 bucks on a car that runs in the 8's is not much money.

plugs were not changed or sprayed on.....It probably does need new plugs since they are the same plugs i got it running on. I could only get a total of 28 degrees of timing out of the distributor and i didnt even try skipping a tooth to get more timing(it was too retarded) .....i think the car needs ALOT more timing, i was going to try to get 38-40 out of it

wow. Yes i believe there is your big issue. I have my car set up with 38 degrees total timing. Hell i run 34 degrees when i am spraying. you need to go back to the track with the timing advanced and a good set of plug wires and plugs. I think you will find your missing et and mph there.

Ok 4 degrees advance on the cam would give you more top end. Thaty would be good if you plan on pulling it closer to the 7000 rpm range.

Another thing to consider is you installed a vic jr intake right? By doing so you lost a lot of low end torque. I have talk to other people who were not happy with there cars performance after that mod. Personally i still want to try it on my car. I think the nitrous will like that intake more then my wiend stealth.

i have heard the same thing.....i think the motors need to be spun higher. Ill get back on later, i have a date with the dentist:nonono:
