What the hell are the IAC/IAB and the TPS? I hear people talk about these being the possible cause of a surging idle all the time. Figured I should check them out.

The IAC is the idle air control, I think the IAB is the idle air bypass(?), the TPS is the throttle possition sensor. Both of thoes are located on the side of your throttle body, the TPS being the bigger one of the two. I used the IAC to adjust my idle to keep it from stalling when I did my head cam swap... Theres a little rubber cap (mines grey) pull that off and there should be an allen screw under it, back that screw out some and it should raise your idle. The more you back it out, the higher your car is going to idle.

Mines at about 1000rpm right now to keep it smooth and from stalling.

Is there something safe to use to clean them with? I was thinking carb or brake cleaner.

They have electric parts cleaner... I'd use some of that. Radio Shack should have some, Walmart should too.
