I have a 2000 saleen convertable. I am looking for a good sound system to install I currently have a mach 460. looking to stay around $1500-$1800 any suggestions? I have had alpine but that was years ago.
You have just as many options with your sound system as you have for your car. It all depends on what you want and what you want your system to do. For $1800 you can build a very good combo. I would start with a good head unit. Make sure it has an aux input for your ipod or a usb port for a thumbdrive and you will never have to carry a cd again. Replace your factory speakers with a good set of aftermarkets and put a multichannel amp on them. A pair of 10s or a single 12 with a good amp, the possible combos are endless. Just make sure you go with a good name. Alpine is still awesome, JL, Rockford, Kicker, Sony, Soundstream. Way too many to list.

I got an Eclipse AVN5510 brand new in the box for $500
A Xtant 3 channel amp for under $200
Boston G5 sub (think 10W7 with better sound) for under $75
All of the above is good info. +1 on the eclipse deck (Laser). Make sure to get component speakers, not co-axials. And make sure to bypass the mach amps!!!
