I have a 99 GT and was looking into changing my spark plugs. The car has 78K miles on it and I doubt it has had the plugs changed. I've never done it before and I was wanting to know if anybody has had any problems that I need to look out for. It looks like no big deal, except for removing the fuel rail, which I have never done before. Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

Well i just did mine (98') this weekend....for the 10th time (nitrous kills em). If the 99 and up motor is set up the same as mine, cylinders 1-7 are a walk in the park. #8 is directly under your fuel press. regulator. It can be a bitch, but i find that if you use a spark plug socket attached to a 4" extention, to a swivel, to a 6" extention, to a 3/8" drive ratchet it can be done without removing the fuel rail. Just be careful, because its very easy to cross thread that plug in...if you feel resistance, back out and start over, you'll thank me later! Any questions? - Mario

I did this the other day. You don't need to remove the fuel rail to get the coils out. They will work out without taking it off, as you can bend them slightly. The biggest things to remember:

1. DO NOT remove plugs when the head is warm, let it cool down or you will strip the threads from the aluminum head.
2. Remove the coils slowly and with care as to not damage them.
3. Ensure proper plug gap for the engine, even double check the "pregapped" ones.
4. Put a small amount of anti-sieze to the threads of the new plugs for easier future replacement and some dielectric grease to top of the plug so it does get messed up from condensation.
5. Torque to specifications, do not overtorque so you don't pull the threads out.

Thanks guys. The clearance between the coil and the fuel rail is almost nil, and I thought that it would have to come off for sure. I've heard that if you remove a fuel rail that it is a real pain to get the fuel injectors to re-primed.

go ahead and replace with platinums if you are not modding much or are not spraying . I would replace with coppers if you are modding. They will not last as long as platinums, but will perform well. :D
Not real hard, just do what the last post said.
