Spark plugs

This is probably a dumb question but a guy I know was telling me that I need to run a cooler set of spark plugs in my car with the mods I have. Is this true?

You do not "need" them, but a step or two colder wouldn't hurt anything either. I'm running a two step colder copper plug in my car now with no problems. I guess the decision is going to be yours. The advantage to a colder plug is less resistance to electrical charge, however, its not a "must have" for a n/a vehicle without high compression like the modular 4.6ltrs.

Thanks for the response! What plugs would you suggest I use? Probably need to change them anyway.

a 2000 GT doesn't have spark plugs....it has fuel injectors...and they are expensive too...someone told me around like 40-50 bucks a piece..and you need 8....

You're kidding right? If a 4-stroke gasoline engine doesn't have spark plugs, how is it going to complete the power stroke??

And, while you're at it, sell all your tools, because you'd be dangerous trying to use them.

edit: Sorry I thought you were the guy that said the GT has no sparkplugs. I would run a cooler plug with your set-up

I'll have to do some reserch and get back to you tommorow. I'm running Motorcraft 12c's but that will not work for you. The heat range on these are close to the stock plugs.

Motorcraft AGSF32PM [PM is for platinum]is the stock plug.
22 C [the C is for copper] and is 1 heat range colder
12 C is 2 heat ranges colder than stock.
You can also use the AWSF plugs.

NGK TR6 and Autolite 103's are 1 step colder.

Yes, they can help resist detonation buy helping keep heat soak in the combustion chamber down. Higer compression= higer combustion chamber pressures and temps(same as in s/c and nitrous, just on a lesser scale...) One heat range cooler for say a head-swapped car would be good. Now on a typical bolt on car a stock heat range plug will work just fine. . .it'll keep some of the heat in the combustion process in the chamber where it is needed;where as in high comp.,s/c, and nitrous a little too much extra heat is added due to higher cylinder pressures and needs to be "bled" off, hence the smaller insulation of the cooler plugs which allows heat to dissipate more rapidly. Wow. . .I need to stop drinking, it makes me a typing fool.

Oh yeah... Here are a few plugs that would work just fine for ya:
NGK TR6's
AL 103's
Denso IT20's
and the 22C's from Ford.

I believe the kind I have are Motorcraft copper awf-sc12's. I could have a letter in there wrong, it's been a while. I know its two steps colder than stock though.
