i have been reading thru some of the posts here trying to get some ideas on what direction to go with my 06 gt........ive got tons of ideas...i want to stay mild....(my car will only see track time on drag nights 2 nights a week,and some street showing off).....i think i know what i want.....ill briefly touch..............bbk shorty headers....slp hi flo cats/x-pipe......slp loudmouth axle backs.....hurst short throw shifter.....c/a intake undecided yet.......rear end gears......again undecided ..might stay factory....or 3:73..................anyhoo..........i keep seeing posts about changing plugs....being i work at a ford dealer as a service writer...i know the factory plugs are good til 100k.....................whats the benefits of switching plugs.........and should i at 50k?.........and what should i go to? brand? type?..........also feel free to comment on my suggest mods at the top......................that i mentioned.....thanks all

Plugs are if you need to go to a colder range for nitrous, turbo, supercharger. Mild mods do not need a plug change. Also are you talking about the BBK equal length headers? I didn't know they made shorties. Also I didn't see you mention the most important two modifications. Tune and CAI. Also think about UDPs and CMCVs. Good luck.

yeah i dont know which cold air i want i like the bbk....or the jlt....but undecoded...and a tune of course..........i have seen the bbk shorty or so the ads say for the s197s...maybe im wrong....i know i want to stay with the slp cats/xpipe and the slp loudmouths......any other header that might work with this combo?

Honestly I'd go with a C&L Racer with 88mm maf tube and 93 octane tune from VMP Tuning. I'm running VMP 93 octane tune, C&L Racer with 88mm maf tube, muffler deletes, CMCVs, and UDPs and I've got 302 rwhp and 318 rwtq. As far as headers go, I'd go with the BBK Equal Lengths, that's what I'm doing when the time comes.

uh this may be a bit embarassing coming from a gear head and a FOMOCO service writer but I'm gonna ask anyway......so please dont laugh too hard but what is/are ...... CMCVs and UDPs....and explain a bit if you could what they are and benefits...thanks for all the help guys and for not being too hard on me...

UDPS = Underdrive Pullies.

CMCVs are the ports that go under the intake manifold. The stock ones have butterflies and a electric motor to control them. The delete plates get rid of them and the motor but you'll need a tune for them. I highly suggest VMP Tuning for this, I don't know of any other tuner who can tune better than Justin for them. Don't buy the billet ones, just the $150 ones.

I would take the $ you want to spend on all that stuff and buy a s/c..A full kit comes with EVERYTHING you will need..And you can have 400 + rwhp rather than 300 or so rwhp..I spent alot of $$ on bolt-ons just to get bored with the power quickly and I got beat a few times..Unless you are 100% absolutley sure you wont crave more power, then fine..But if you are like most of us, its NEVER ever enough..good luck..BTW you can get a Vortech full kit for about $3,500 bucks..I have an auto with steeda CMCP's and make 427rwhp on a mustang dyno..Before the s/c I made 298 rwhp..I love the new power...

You might want to search the threads here relative to the spark plug issue. Before you get too many miles on your car you should at least pull the existing plugs and put anti-seize on the ground shields. Otherwise you risk them getting carboned up and potentially freezing into the heads. Your OEM plugs are two-piece construction and can't take too much torque so sometimes break if the ground shield is surrounded by carbon (the tolerances are pretty tight). There's lots of threads here about when, why, and how. Your FoMoCo technicians should know a bunch about this issue. It's not a big deal if it's done early - consider it preventative maintenance!

oh boy do i nkow about these issues....lol....didnt know so much bout the stangs since any everyday joe that bought one isnt ready for a tune up yest....(ford recc at 100k miles)....but with the 5.4 in the f150's oh heck yeah....its waaaaaay common even in our labor op menu prices....on the 04 and up f150s with 5.4's it is an hour extra labor per cylinder for broken plugs......and it DOES happen let me tell you

Brenspeed sells a good set as well as Brisk Racing makes a very nice set. I believe both of them are only 30,000 mile plugs though.

I know some bad mouth them, but I've got 2500 miles on a new set of Champion #7989 plugs without a single problem.

The car runs great, getting very good mileage and NO BREAKAGE WORRIES. Being double platinum, they should easily go 75,000 to 100,000 miles. Sauce for the goose, I just received my $2 a plug rebate from Champion. I got the plugs from Summit Racing for $4.95 ea, before they realized their pricing mistake. They ended up costing me $2.95 ea. I wish I had bought 3 sets! What a country.
