Anyone know if they offer a speed chip for enhanced performance on the s197? I know they still make them for my truck but what about the stang? Or are you limited to the standard boltons for performance upgrades anymore.

SCT, Superchips, Diablosport, Sniper, JET, etc. most use the SCT or diablosport tuners.

Is it just a tuner or is there a permanent replacement chip. What kind of results do you expect because i know with tuners for our diesel we can pull like an extra 100-150 horses and i haven't heard any results like that from the tuners talked about on the site before.

I'm not sure you can get a chip for the '05's in the true sense of the word. I used to have a chip that actually plugged in to the computer of my '96. But, I don't think you can physically open up the computer on these cars.

The new hand-held tuners do the same kinds of things the old chips used to do. I think they are all pretty good. I have the SCT Xcalibrator-2, and I have a CAI. The Xcal had a tune from Paul's High Performance in Michigan. It does a good job and was easy to use. You just plug it into the diagnostic connector under the dash and follow the instructions in the little window. The tune does most of the same things my old chip did. Firmed up shifts in my automatic, improved throttle response and made a lot more power (don't know how much, not been on a dyno). These new units are not much more expensive than the old chip I got in '98. I think they are a good deal in terms of power per buck.

i believe that one company actually offers a chip. the rest are hand-held tuners. a typical CAI/tune combo is around 20-30 RWHP. the more mods you install, the more power potential there is with the tuner. a custom tune is also the best way to maximize your mods. diesels are a totally different world, a N/A gasoline enigine will not produce the power of a turbo diesel.

You don't have to mod the chip anymore you can just change the program for it. If you don't like that one you can change it again.

Thanks for the clarity on the turbo diesel. It does produce a ton more power than a 20-30 horsepower gain. Looks like to get a great power gain, i need some mods first then some custom tunes. Thanks

I have the JET chip, plugs in under the hood, 5-10 minute install. IMHO not worth the asking price, got a little seat of the pants gain, and definately helped with the drive by wire throttle 'lag'.....I dont even know what they are claiming for a HP increase....
I'll soon be upgrading to a SCT X-cal or Diablosport......
