What does the Vehicle Speed Sensor do for the ECU? My AODE shifts so early when Im easy on the pedal (light). My speedometer seems to be off by 10mph at higher speeds (past 40) but I know that speed sensor for the gauge doesnt control the shift points, I think the ECU one does... My GT will shift into 2nd at like 10mph and into 3rd around 22mph and overdrive at 35mph... all seems WAY too soon.

The reason why the sensor seems to make a light bulb come on in my head, whenever I turn on my cruise control at say.. about 52mph the car will accelerate to 55mph, if im at 46 mph it will accelerate to 50mph... It seems to go in 5 mph increments, Thinking that maybe if VSS is bad the computer is doing a preset or something, just a guess...

anyone ever had a vehicle speed sensor issue in automatic car?? could it cause any of these issues?? the lugging at light pedal speeds is driving me crazy wanting to switch to 5 speed!! please help

1994 5.0 GT AODE - CAI, Otherwise stock 15.72 @ 89mph (turdddd)
Installed B & M Shift kit, Underdrive pullies on way, curious to see any gains at track!!

I think the first thing you need to do is confirm the diff gear ratio. The simplest way is to jack up the rear end place a mark on the driveshaft and count the number of D/S rotations for 1 rotation of the wheel. If the D/S count is 2 3/4 rotations the gear ratio will be 2:73 - 1. 3.5 turns will be 3:55 - 1. And so on. Once that is determined you will be able to tell if the speedo can be corrected by a change in the VSS driven gear.
