After running on just the 23 tooth gear for correcting the speedo for the whole summer, I finally got around to installing the speedcal. Got 3:90s done. A recent flyby of one of those roadside speed signs showed I was off by quite a bit. I knew it was an accurate sign as I had driven by it with my other car and it was dead on.

I was putting it off for two reasons. Reason one was that the installer told me that the new speedo gear will make it very close to reality, and two was that I didn't know what to set the dip switches at since I didn't have the stock speedo gear anymore. Feedback I received here was to use trial and error using another car to drive next to for speed matching. The table of switch settings in the instructions only referenced changing from stock gear ratios avail from Ford using the stock speedo gear, which I didn't have anymore.

Ah, so I found on DMs site, a calculator for entering your gear ratio, speedo gear teeth number and tire size and it spits out the appropriate dip switch settings. Even after reading all the speedcal threads, I didn't know it existed and hope this info helps out someone.

Also found the use of ramps instead of jacks to be the way to go for safety and room as you do have to be under the car messing with wire connectors.

Take that gear out and put the stock gear back in. From what i've heard your car will more than likely chew that new gear to shreds pretty quickly anyways so the speedcal + stock gear would be the easiest way to do it.

By gear i'm obviously referring to the tranny gear that you used to adjust your speedo, not your rear end gears

If I have any problems, with the speedo gear, I plan on doing just that. Other than temporarily not working, a chewed up speedo gear will just mean that it won't work until I replace it right? Or is there something I don't know?

No, that's about it. It will eat off the teeth of the little plastic gear, and your speedo will get a little erratic, then eventually stop working.
