Hey so I am working on getting my 347 project together, so I replaced my t5 with another rebuilt t5 but in the process, when I sold my original one, I stupidly sent it with the speedo gear, the cable is still there but I think it will need to be replaced because it looks like the end could be missing, so not really sure what I need. I have the original rear end gears, but was thinking of switching to 4.10's in the near future, I know 4 10s are debatable, and if you think that 4 10s are too much let me know your recommendations, I have a 347 trick flow street heads, with trick flow street intake, crane cam, powermax 2030, 24 lbs injectors, fidanza flywheel, equal length headers, x pipe, etc. So I am using this car mainly as a weekend summer occasional car.... do you think 4.10s are pushing it, and for now, even though I don't currently have 4 10s do you think it would just be smart to order the speedo gear and whatever else I need, even if the speedo is off a bit. Not sure what I need to order so any tech regarding speedo gear, teeth and colors, for m/t t5 1988 gt. vert, with above mods would be great! Thanks guys!

Nice combo

Seeing that it is not your DD I would stick with the 4.10's and have fun

If you have the transmission out of the car now, I would at least do the drive gear for the 4.10's just to save yourself some trouble in the future if you are sure you will be using those gears.

With 4.10's I believe you need a white 23 tooth driven gear, and a 7 tooth drive gear

Unfortunately I do have the transmission and drive shaft in the car, if I don't do the gear upgrade till next year, will the white 23 tooth driven gear, and a 7 tooth drive gear work ok, other than throwing of the speedo a bit, I am slightly confused about these gears, anyone have any pics or more info.. about location etc. I have a cork in the side of the tranny, where I believe the speedo goes, to keep fluid from leaking out when I mounted it.

You need to look at the drive gear inside the trans. Is it green or yellow? If it's green it's an 8-tooth drive gear. If it's yellow, it's a 7-tooth.

Which speedo gear you need to use depends on what drive gear you have.

Ok, awesome, I'll check today!!

Another question I have, it's kinda unrelated, I got the trick flow street intake, and because I have a rocker stud girdle, I have the tall trick flow valve covers, all in black, I will throw up some pics after, but the machine shop put the oil fill on the right valve cover, and the upper intake hits the right valve cover and touches the oil fill kit. So I ordered a 1 inch spacer which will fix this problem, and a small silver breather, because I am going to move the oil fill over to the other side, and because of the angle the small silver breather will fit ok.

Anyways so my question is about the breather, is it ok to have a breather?? I thought I heard something about that some engines shouldn't have one or something. Is this nonsense?

Without knowing your entire engine setup (vac lines, combo, smog, etc), i can only say it's usually better to NOT use a breather and keep the entire PCV system enclosed.

Usually using a breather requires mods or elimination of the PCV system.

Well maybe since, I already ordered it and the spacer, I could just do something with the breather, so it acts more like a cap, like block it off from the inside or something, cause it's chrome so doesn't look terrible, or maybe I could just swap the valve covers, if they are the same on both sides, and not bother drilling a new hole in the other valve covers..
