Have a weird issue, my speedometer is broken. It works randomly over 40 miles an hour or so, but the odometer rolls all the time. I thought they were connected. Anyone have an idea of whats wrong here?

Your speedometer is obviously busted. The speedometer doesn't need to work for the odometer to roll. The two might get info from the same mechanism (not sure, I'm assuming this), but they're not interconnected.

I was having the same issue with my speedometer. I found a used cluster and swapped out the module that does the speedometer. My old one for some reason, started working again afterwards.

But before, it exhibited the same symptoms you described above.

I was wrong, the odometer does not work, just the trip odometer does. Im thinking to try and swap out the VSS and see if that helps. The Salad, where is the module for the speedo, Id like to try that if the VSS doesnt work. Im assuming that since the odo and speedo are inop its something that controls both. And I really dont want to swap out the cluster unless I have to because Cobra clusters arent too easy to come by.

Aren't the '96 Cobra speedo's completely mechanical? I find it hard to fathom that one works and the other doesn't.

Great way to keep the resale mileage down on your car though.
