spintech side exhaust dilema

hey everyone, i got a little of a situation here. my fiance' just bought me the spintech side exhaust as a gift (god bless that woman ) and i am worried that it wont fit with my current setup. right now i am running a steeda 5 link rear suspension wich does not allow for a full exhaust. i am currently running flowmaster dumps and it has gotten old really fast . since i cant run a full over axel setup my only options are dumps or some sort of side exhaust. so my old lady thought she would try to help my problem by surprising me with the spintech setup. i am currently running MM full length subs and am EXTREMELY concerned about clearance issues. i know spintech sells subs for this application but i am not about to go through the hassle of a sub swap and quite frankly i am leary of wether or not spintechs subs would provide as much beefy bracing as my MM's. so with that in mind... do you think i will be able to pull it off, do some griding, or have a local exhaust shop mandrel bend me a segment to dip around my subs. ANY insights would be appreciated. i am sure i can make it work somehow as i really would like to run this exhaust. help me out boys.... i am sure if we put our heads together some sorta solution can be found . the MM subs hug the floor pretty well except for an area near the torque boxes where is dips down to sit flush on the bottem of the torque box via steeda box reinforcements to make a good/solid welding area. they subs are 1 1/4' tall and 2' wide. i just hope it misses the dip and it clears but knowing my luck it will smack it right in the middle. hope you guys can help. thanks again!

hey man, no problem. if you have ANY questions about the 5 link let me know . i am considering converting to the 5 link 2 so i can have easier access to my diff and stuff.... but not ANY time in the near future... tooo much $$$ . but it makes a world of a difference in the way the rear end behaves. i wanted to try something different than the popular (and still very good might i add) torque arm setup. needless to say it was money well spent. we should get together sometime and i'll show you my bling suspension setup and let u take her for a little drive or something so you can see if you like the way it feels. and thanks for the reccomendation for the shop... i might need to have someone custom bend me some pipe worst case senario. anyways.... no one can help my spintech issue?????

well i talked to ron at spintech (awesome guy) and told hime about my concerns. he told me that my subs (MM subs) and their low profile should be alright but MAY require some to little notching with a grinder. this solution seems fine with me.... but is there any risk in weakening my subframe integrity by notching them a bit if need be? . i just wanna play everything safe. i doubt it would have any adverse affects. if anyone has an opinion to voice please do. i'll also keep you posted if and when i install them this weekend.

loud is good! . i have bassani headers and offroad x-pipe so needless to say... my neighbors are gonna love me. but that is good to hear that you had some good experience with your install. that kinda eases my mind a bit. i'll just keep my fingers crossed i guess and see what happens. i cant wait to get this system on this weekend. it should turn some heads thats for damn sure


AND TWIZTED : one more thing... are your subs full length and what are their measurements? is there any way you could email me a couple pics or something? i REALLY appreciate anything you can do to help

TWIZTED91GT, u out there man? i am thinking i am gonna try the install tommorow afternoon evening. i got a couple emails from the guys on the forum and the commom responce is telling me i should be all fine and dandy and shouldnt even have to grind anything down

88gtstreetrod : thanks for the call man, i am glad we got to talk and hear some things regarding the exhaust. i'll "get-er-done" tommorow and post some pics and hopefully some video for everyone on the forum to enjoy!

yeah thanks mike... believe me that thought crossed my mind and i discussed it with ron at spintech. the side system already has dimples put in the pipes to help out with clearance issues, so the oval tuping would be pretty much a waste of $$$... by the way that stuff is expensive. i talked to 88gtstreetrod about this on the phone and we thought up some good solutions should i have clearance issue. one that sounded the best would be to apply some rubberized coating to the pipe if and where it makes contact with the subs to avoid any rattles and such. this way i could run it almost touching the subs if not resting on them to gain more clearance. hopefully none of this will be the case, but there is only one way to find out . i am gonna throw em on tommorow cross my fingers. everyone keeps telling me how bad*** these things sound... i wanna hear them in person! . i have heard a couple vids, but i doubt they do them any justice.

I GOT IT ON TODAY ..... but it didnt go the way i hoped. just as i worried the exhaust wanted to cross the subframes right at their lowest point. i was getting ready to bust the grinder out when i thought up a good solution. i rotated the mufflers slightly ans managed to get enough clearance under the subs.... but this made the U bend pipe hang very low... THANK GOD I HAVE STEEDA BILLET ADJ CONTROL ARMS. . i simply compensated the lower pipe by raising the rear up about 1/2 inch. since my car is already lowered the ride hight looks fine and i have enough room to clear the ground safely. the car passed the speed bump and dip test a various speeds . only one way to tell if everything works is to drive the car for a few days and see how everything works. the exhaust sounds sweet! a little more quiet at idle than i wanted but it scream when you put some foot into it. i'll post some pics and hopefully a vid so all you guys can admire my beast.
