Ok, every time i push my clutch pedal in, there is an awful squeak coming from the underside of the car. I got under it today to try and pinpoint the problem, and tried to take the (i guess clutch fork, never messed with tranny stuff before) cover off from the driver side of the tranny, but it seemed like none of my sockets, metric or standard, were fitting the bolt. 3/8 was close, but still turning on my 12 pt sockets. Anyone know what size this bolt is? I will try 6 pt sockets tomorrow, the 12 pts were all i had at the time, maybe that will do it. Anyway, i still havent been able to troubleshoot it yet, so does anyone know what this might be? Hopefully my clutch isnt going south, just got a new one less than a year ago...

THe infamous Throwout bearing. They are well known for going south periodically.

I ran a search and most of the posts said TOB, but im not sure this is the problem. They seemed to be describing a constant squeaking while the car is on, and then going away when you press the clutch in. I can have my car turned off in neutral and push the clutch in, and the squeak happens while im pushing the pedal, like an "opening a squeaky metal gate" type of sound. Is it in my cable or inside the trans?

It's your TOB. Once it gets bad it will squeak all the time. Just depends what stage of disintigration the TOB is in.

well that sounds exactly like what my clutch did.. one of the fingers on the pressure plate had broken and was wedge into the others.

Is that why you smelled clutch burning all the time because my new one is doing that now.

I have the same problem. I had the Ford dealership look at it and they lubed some stuff up. That solved the problem for a day, so I'm not sure they did anything to fix it to begin with. My pedal squeeks as I'm releasing (travels up). This happens both when the engine is running and when it's not.

Could it be some cable guide that needs to be greased?

TOB- nothing to worry about. Replace it when the clutch goes out...

Yeah TOB. My 97 Cobra does that sometimes. It does it everyday for a week, then it goes away for a week or too. It does it when the engine is got or cold. I hope it goes away cause I am trying to sell the car. I don't want to spend 300-400 bucks for labor for a 22 dollar part. I would do it myself but I don't wanna mess with the L/T headers.

its the throwout bearing (TOB) fo sho. it doesnt nessecarily mean its going bad, it could just be it lost all the grease. mine sqeaks on occasion and my aftermarket clutch only has ~15k miles on it. if its really that bothersome to you, you can tear everything apart and lube it up. if not, just live w/ it till your clutch croaks

He said it happens when the car is off....I thought the TOB was only when the car was on?
