you to larry thanks for checking in

Thats thing though, Im not sure if the rear end is currently set up correctly anyway. I'm thinking of maybe just taking the rear end out of the car and dropping it off and having someone else that knows what they are doing rebuild the rear end and make sure everything is in spec

did you get rid of that virus yet mike?

I had to call Norton for remote assistance, and everything seems to be working fine now. There are just some sites that people should stay away from... just saying......

nothing wrong with that. Better safe than sorry. Now you just have to find someone who knows what they are doing.

Thats good to hear Mike.

I tried Ford and they wont take just the rear end and redo the bearings. I could check everything before hand just to make sure its all in spec, just have to get the right tools to do so like a dial indicator and what not.

Hope everyone had a good christmas

I've got the dial indicator and magnetic base if you want to borrow it. I remember a transmission shop in Biddeford that also did rear ends. This was about 10 years ago so not sure if they still do that as a service. http://www.northeasttransmission.net/

I just wish I knew why there was no preload on the rear end or what caused it. I dont know if the pinion depth was correct or if it was shimmed properly or if just going to the track and the abuse it took was enough to just do it in. I'm pretty sure it was set up correctly to begin with but I would like to be sure before I pull everything out and put it all back in as it was before. I would still rather have it done by someone else or a shop that has experience with all this but its looking as though its hard to find a shop that does and the other hand is also the cost. I dont mind spending some but I dont want this to be a $700 fix either. Pretty much just need the labor done, I'll get all the parts myself.

Called Rowe Ford in Auburn and they said they can do it. Will be $440 for labor. I'm buying the parts. So overall its not to bad and worth it for me to know that it is all set up correctly. Just need to drop the rear end out of it now and figure out how to get it to auburn. Also a good time to upgrade the upper control arms which I have wanted to do.

good luck. Do you have a pickup you can put that in to bring to Auburn? Strap it down and block it in place or that thing will be sliding around and dropping smelly oil all over the place. You could strap it to a pallet.

I can get a pallet and I'll have to find someone who can help me bring it over when the time comes

the tranny jack will come in real handy. They also have adapters for floor jacks that can convert them into a tranny jack.

I think I can get the jack for around $50 for a one day rental and I'll look into the floor jack adapter as well. I know that trying to get it back in w/ out either one of those will be really tough. Work as tons of pallets I'll just have to find a way to get one home then I can strap it down onto that and work on getting it to the dealership to get redone.

careful with your back those things are heavy. You could save yourself a few pounds if you pop out the differential.
