Stainless/Aluminized

Is anyone running a stainless steel catback with an aluminized X pipe? I was concerned that if I run with this setup, I will have a corrosion problem with the X pipe. I want the UPR X pipe but will go with the magnaflow stainless if there will be an issue. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

hooking up aluminum to steel is no issue ive had none so far

what i would worry about more is having subframes start to rust on you.

if it snows where you live i would get the stianless steel one cause the aluminized one will corode and rust pretty quick. Now if it dosent snow then just go with the aluminized one

when you have 2 different metals + moisture and the elements, corrission will occur over time. i wouldnt worry about the stainless side, but the corrossion on the aluminized side may* be slightly accellerated. remember, corrossion isn't always rust. there's pitting, exfoliation, intergranular to name a few.

that said, i wouldn't worry about it. if you get an aluminized x-pipe, chances are its going to rust eventually over time, especially living in new york. now, that "over time" may be several years. i know of one guy personally with a prochamber that hasnt shown the slightest sign of rust and he lives in PA.

get the UPR, its probably the best bang for your buck x-pipe out there

Thank you for the great replys. Now, horsepower wise, I don't think there will be a huge difference but does anyone have any opinions? I thought I read somewhere that UPR uses magnaflow cats anyway! But I could be wrong..

And yes, it snows here but I am trying to find a winter beater..

it can vary from 5-20 HP depending on other mods

would it be better to keep a mid pipe aluminum coated or sand it and paint it with high temp. paint?

Corrosion occurs with dissimilar metals. However, they must be in contact with each other for this to occur. If you have a gasket between them, there won't be a problem.

There is no gasket between the midpipe and the catback...it's a ball and socket fitting.
I've got a SS midpipe and aluminized catback on my 02 GT...no issues. If Flowmaster made a SS catback, I would have bought that. Still, my 2 year old Amer Thunder catback is not showing ANY signs of rust...zero, none. And I'm about 1/2 mile from salt water...

I am about 1/2 mile from salt water too! Speakin gof snowing, it snowed today (but the stang is tucked away nicely). They use a ton of salt here!! So looks like I'm gonna order the UPR w/ 20% discount..woohoo!

I ordered the UPR pipe but the free O2 extensions are on backorder for 3 weeks, so they backordered the whole order! Oh well, I can wait.
